They will fit. All you need to do is rotate the bars as you go through the stem to accomodate the curves.

If it's a tight fit, you could always file down the inner edges a hair just to smooth them out and keep them from biting into the bars.
what tool do you personally use to measure the clamp diameter

Ok, so (as is often the case with people you meet on tha interwebs - and elsewhere) the person who told me that probably didn't know what he was talking about. Not to distressing to my worldview. I shan't go on perpetuating that particular line of bs then.

Besides filing the edges of the clamp area (which I've done to get a set of drop bars into an old-school MTB stem), you can "jack" the opening wider using the bolt and a dime.

Only if the hole is threaded on both sides of the split. Many are not.

My 3TTT stem has a small allen-head screw under the clamp fot jacking the clamp open. Without it I woudn't have been able to get my bars in place.

I have to say that while threadless stems are uglier, the ability to remove the faceplate to get bars on and off is really nice.

I'm considering picking up a Deda Murex, which is a quill stem with a removable faceplate that isn't the most hideous thing on the planet. I think Origin 8 sells the same stem rebranded.

Huh, I hadn't seen those before. Not a bad idea. I like the location of the removable bit too, so it's not quite so obvious that it's not a normal quill stem.

The Origin 8 version is a cheap knockoff that is about as stiff as a wet noodle.

Good to know. I probably would have gone with the Deda regardless. Something about that Origin 8 logo makes me unhappy.

scrod,

whats your inseam measurement? i remember figuring out that the seat tube/stand over measurements of my 55 scrambler was pretty close to the 58 722, and your 722 setup looks pretty much like that of my bike

i just used the fitment calculator in detail this time and it says i should be looking at a 51 frame..
this has me weirded out now, maybe i monged up one of the fields

Your mistake is in bold.

Also, re-measure yourself.

You should be looking at the effective top tube measurements. Thats a lot more important imo

post your measurements before you retake them all. You might only have to redo one.

You definitely did something wrong. Try cm too. Make sure to read the instructions completely, and have a friend help you with it.

Check your arm measurement. It seems off. Everything else looks ok. Our measurements our pretty close, I'm a little bigger in all respects.

Its giving you a small top tube, because you told it your arms are tiny.
