well i dont have the money to buy a bike just for the stem, and if i got a converter id have to buy a new stem anyway after that. plus i think it would look kinda fugly

scrod, any good recommendations for like ~$30 risers in 25.4?

Scrodzilla 08-19-12 08:00 PM

I can get you a set of Dimension risers for cheeeeeeeep. Contact me through the site.

B259

Scrodzilla 08-19-12 08:06 PM

B259s are the ones that were recalled and replaced by B260s. Universal Cycles shouldn't even be selling them.

Scrodzilla 08-19-12 08:13 PM

I'll be putting them up on the site soon because a lot of people ask for them.

Ok, enough RG talk in this thread. :innocent:

Only the AA version was recalled, I was under the impression the chromo ones were fine.

Scrodzilla 08-19-12 08:31 PM

You're right. The pic on UC's site shows the alloy ones.

Edit: I think I'll pass on it, the fact that I can't find anything on their A1 Premium Alloy doesn't seem like a good thing.

It's the same material they use on all of their Secteur, and the low-mid end Allez.

Scrodzilla 08-19-12 09:14 PM

But what is it?

ddeadserious 08-19-12 09:16 PM

Probably some cheap **** aluminum. I don't know.

Adrian_ 08-19-12 09:18 PM

Its probably 6061 with some of this mixed in to the alloy.http://content.costco.com/Images/Con...duct/1699b.jpg

IvyCap 08-20-12 02:05 PM

This might seem too specific, but since your shop carries them, does the Pake French 75 51cm have a backsloping top tube?

Scrodzilla 08-20-12 02:09 PM

I haven't seen a 51cm built up but looking at it, I'm pretty sure it does not.

IvyCap 08-20-12 02:21 PM

Much appreciated Sir.

Crandrew 08-20-12 02:35 PM

Oh wise Scrodzilla- i ordered some deep v's that are capable of using fixed or freewheel on both sides. While shopping for Dura Ace cogs and lock-ring I noticed that some advertise Left or Right assignment. Whats that about? I do/did try and search these things before asking.

Scrodzilla 08-20-12 03:41 PM

All cogs thread on to the right. All lockrings thread on to the left.

clear as mud. I don't think i'm cut out for understanding the complexities of bicycles, you folks are way to smart.

Dear Scrod,

If remember correctly you mentioned awhile back that you had some derivative of lezyne's floor drive. How is it holding up? How's the availability of spares?
Just asking as I managed to pick up one earlier today on sale.

I did?

Hey Scrod, I want to add some "road style"? brake levers/hoods and a freewheel to my Hour to make it a little more comfortable this fall for some longer-distance rides. Can you suggest me an inexpensive comfortable pair

By the way, I'm lovin my RG pedals+straps, holding up great.

Hey Scrod. Been riding my Hour in fixed gear all spring/summer. Fall is around the corner and I think I'd like to do some more "longer-distance" rides. However, always spinning, and riding on my drops is a little rough(boo-hoo)

Do you think I should get a geared road bike, or just add a freewheel & hoods(for comfort) so I can coast down the hills and relax my geo a bit? Thanks.

Personally, I really hate riding single speed without it being fixed. It just feels weird to me, almost like it's some sort of struggle. If I'm going to be on a bike that coasts, it's going to have more than one gear. YMMV.

I think it's good to ride more than one kind of bike. If you have the money to pick up a geared bike, give it a shot.

Thanks. The Anti-Scrod Club tried to convince "the masses" that they were junk lately because of what seems like a couple of bad sets and I'm glad you're happy with yours.

Oh really? I haven't been on the forum pretty much at all in months(been a busy summer and my bikes been running good, so not much to share) so I must have missed this. I have the V2 straps/odyssey kind - no complains and a lot of miles and general neglect(they're on my commuter/bar hopper).

I'm a little tight on money so I might just go with the freewheel + brakes for now and if I don't like it get a geared road bike next spring. Thanks for the insight though.

There's an Anti Scrod Club??? sounds like something a judicious use of Du Ponts finest could fix

My recommendation would be Cane Creek SCR-5. They're fairly cheap, easy enough to set up, comfy & have replacement parts available /notscrod

Muffin Man 08-20-12 08:02 PM

Do you find the Dia Comp BRS 100 brake that you sell online to be flexy?

Scrodzilla 08-20-12 08:56 PM

Angie has one on her 722. I'll consult her and report back.

Muffin Man 08-20-12 09:02 PM

Ok thanx. Whenever I squeeze the brake, I see the arm moving. Theyre also not as powerful as the ones on my roadie, but im thinking thats just because the stock pads arent very good

Scrodzilla 08-20-12 09:10 PM

All brakes will show a little flex but she just told me the stock pads suck. She's using Kool Stop pads.

Muffin Man 08-20-12 09:36 PM

Ill probably pick up new pads then.
