Should I get my BB shell and head tube refaced when installing the new headset and BB?

Without seeing it, it's hard to say for sure but I think you'll be ok.

I'm sure some will argue with this but if you had it faced/chased the first time around, you should be alright.

If you're cool with spending the money to have it done and plan on keeping it a while, have it done.

if you're a prime member you can get them on amazon for $59 w/2 day shipping

isn't the only difference between them and R540s ($40) a couple of grams?

The 105's have a steel shoe plate. The R540's have a plastic one. Shimano considers both of the shoe plates a "consumable" part. The steel plate is never going anywhere. The plastic plate on the R540's doesn't last too long. The R540's are modeled after DA's, while the 105's look more like ultegras.

I mainly went with the 105's instead of the R540's because because of the steel shoe plate, and never having to worry about it. It was worth the $20. and they're shiny.

good sir, whats the threshhold of "unsafe" for the ratio of steer tube:empty space in the stem? the 722 headtube is longer so my steerer might some up short by about 15mm from my previous setup and i was thinking of testing it out with my current fork, but if thats too much i wont bother taking it all apart

i had asked this already but i think it got lost a couple pages ago, pls dont beat me.

Velocity. Quality is better and they're lighter.

There are tons of types of Velocity. Any recommendations? I use them for road.

I found your cleverly hidden text!

I typically cut the steerer to be level or slightly above the top of the stem stack and use a small spacer up top.

As Adrian said, 3-4mm is common. I would never want 15mm of empty space inside my stem clamp as that doesn't leave enough for the stem to grab on to.

If you're looking for a good strength/weight ratio, go with Fusions. If you're a weight weenie, go for Aeroheads and make sure they're built well.

Have you ever tried riding with a worn pair of V1 straps in flip flops? It feels very dangerous but amazingly comfy.

Also, have you ever just found a really good .gif and instantly searched SSFG because there is always bound to be a perfect place to use it?

No and yes. Sometimes I'll find a gif and leave it open in a tab for days just waiting for the right time to drop it.

Have person tagging along with me that is a motocross and wants to start doing road rides for endurance. Should I make him suffer on the first ride?
