Scrod,
Going to hold off to build wheels for my Tarmac until tax season. Had a thought though, would it be possible to relace my 20H radial front wheel in a different lacing configuration using the same spokes? I'm figuring the spokes would be too short for any kind of cross lacing, but just want to confirm that it would not be feasible.

Unfortunately, the spokes will be too short.

Alrighty I figured. I can't keep it true, and any time I put my weight over the front wheel(like to climb), it gives me lots of soft little pings. Not the kind that happens after you just true a wheel, just quiet ones the whole time. Maybe I'll just grab some new spokes and relace it to hold me over until I can build something more durable. Can I lace a 20H wheel 3X, or would 2X make more sense?

do you bother with riding in the winter?
iirc you live in walking distance from the shop, but if so do you use different tires or just htfu?

I usually just use whatever tires happen to be on the bad-weather Raleigh at the time - which are usually throwaways left at the shop.

Apparently when I answered him - you know, in the thread where I answer questions - it wasn't good enough.
I happen to think spocalc sucks compared to this.

It gets icy here too but my ride to the shop takes about 4 minutes if I go as slow as possible without falling over.

scrod i need your opinion on tires.
I need a durable flat resistant tire. I currently run gatorskins and am extremely dissapointed with these tires, i get flats constantly. I am thinking about trying out the specialized armadillos but would like your input on a puncture/flat resistant tire first. Oh and i run 23's.

Based on the pic, I would most likely replace that tire or at least stick a boot inside. Gatorskins are great but have crappy sidewalls.
If you're not stuck on using 23c tires, get some 25c Ribmos (which do run a little small).

It helps if you're a regular customer that has a good relationship with the shop. Hang out a bit, ask for an internship, boom.
The first shop job I had literally fell into my lap. I wasn't even a regular customer, I just happened to go in one day to buy something stupid like tubes and the owner said 'Hey, do you know how to install a headset?" and when I told him I did, he said "Grab whatever tools you need and get to work".

Any recommendations for a 28-32C cross tire that's cheap? Have a friend coming to town in November with his cross bike and I'd like to hit some mild trails with him on my 722.
Edit: Found the Kenda Kwick Tire 700x30c Black/Mocha Steel on QBP, they're real cheap. Do you have any experience with them? Hoping they'll fit..
