A machine shop will need to remove the steerer from the fork in order to turn it on a lathe, then weld it back on.

Hey Scrod,
I'm building another Rush and I ordered the threadless fork because they don't make a threaded one in white that matches the frame.
I'm looking at two options:
Have the threadless fork threaded and buy one of those NJS Tange headsets and some sort of cool quill stem (3tt, Nitto, etc).
or
Put a threadless headset and stem on it.
I don't like the looks of threadless stems on traditional steel track frames but I do know that it's far more convenient for swapping bars.
Could you recommend a good quality 1" threadless headset and stem that would be comparable in price and quality to the threaded setup I'm looking at? There doesn't seem to be much selection for threadless 1" and I've never had to shop for it before.

See the post directly above yours.
The IRD TechnoGlide is an awesome headset that has a classic look if you don't want to shell out Chris King bucks.

Dear scrod,
How's the devil chain holding up? Any long run thoughts and opinions about it? Compared to the 710sl?
Yes I want those superb stickers.

I'd still rather have a 725.

I'm running the IRD Technoglide on my 930 and I love it. Low stack height though so spacers will be needed if the threading is long.
That's what I'm running as well, and yeah loud when in air, silent when there's a load on it.

Anyone...
Opinions on Miche cranks + BB? I have someone offering me a set for cheap. Sort of tempted but have read a couple mixed reviews, especially around the BB. Would like more info.

Hey Scrod, your thoughts on the Fyxation Comet Drops? Alot shallower than B123's but closer to B125's yeah?
I want to use drops on my new build. Have mostly used risers and bullhorns on previous bikes.

Scrod,
I'm currently bikeless while building my kilo deluxe out. The only thing stopping me from getting the bike going within a week is the headset.
I have a Chris King 1" threaded from an old bike. I planned to convert it to threadless but the conversion kit is back ordered about 2 weeks out.
Would you sooner pick up a mid range headset and save/sell the Chris King? (The conversion kit is nearly $50 shipped)

Miche cranks are great. I had some trouble with the BB repeatedly coming loose on a bike the old shop I worked at built up but I've never used one on my own bike so I may just not like it because it was a source of anger. There aren't many other options out there for a 107mm ISO BB though.
