That reminds me.. I know you love Pasela TG's, but how do you rate the Durano Plus? Anywhere close to TG's?

Scrodzilla 07-25-12 06:44 AM

The Durano Plus is another great tire. Awesome rolling resistance at high PSI and extremely durable.

The first ones I had started falling apart of the sidewalls - every day long threads were coming off and it kept getting worse and worse - but I contacted Schwalbe and they sent me replacements (I guess there was a bad batch) that I had no issues with. Once I got the replacement tires, I tried killing my damaged rear 25c by skidding through it and got bored because it was taking too long.

What is a good road single speed gearing for someone who is new to single speed bikes? The area is hilly with some steep hills to climb, the cranks are 165, and 700x28c wheels.

Thank you

Dear Scrod,

I want to buy the MKS Urban Platform pedals from you. What clips/straps combo should I get to go with them? Thanks.

Scrodzilla 07-25-12 08:21 AM

Even though you're asking in the wrong thread I'll be nice because it's you, Kaz.

Personally, I'd go with MKS clips and deluxe doubles.

Dammit! Sorry, Scrod. I've never been in the marketplace forum so I didn't know that thread was there. Thanks for being nice.

I love a happy ending.

Scrod, have you ever heard of a deep V rim that is compatible with tubeless tires? Some, maybe all, Hutchinson tires are not compatible with conversion kits. Given the amount of glass on the roadways of Rhode Island, I'd love some tires that are pretty much bomb proof.

gayngs 07-25-12 12:57 PM

Hey Scrod, do you happen to know the torque specs on the Leader i806 carbon fork? The compression plug and stem bolt clamp.
Thanks.

Not sure if this belongs in the Retrogression thread or here - is it mainly a one-man operation at RG or do you employ other mechanics as well?

Pasela TGs are awesome on hard-packed gravel and such and they have great rolling resistance if you keep them inflated a little over the recommended PSI. I love them. The TGs do run a little small, though.

Hey,

Do you know anything about the elusive black sidewall Pasela TG's? They seem to be a European release, also available on Ebay, but Panaracer doesn't even list it on their website. They seem to be only wire bead too.

Wondering if the black makes a stronger sidewall? Or if there's not much point tracking them down if the T-Serv's in black are basically the same thing?

Scrodzilla 07-25-12 08:10 PM

T-Serv Protex is basically a black-sidewall Pasela TG with a folding bead. Another awesome tire, IMO.

Thanks again. That's about what I thought.

Now to decide whether to go gum-wall or stay black...

thewilson 07-26-12 08:48 AM

Scrod, why, why are the people on Craigslist so flakey? WHY?

Scrodzilla 07-26-12 08:53 AM

Dude, I have no idea. Every time we've ever sold anything on craigslist, Angie and I end up shaking our heads in disbelief.

Mumonkan 07-26-12 05:59 PM

scrodmaster,

any word on the geo chart for the 722 rs ?

Soo__Fuego 07-26-12 06:17 PM

Dear Scrod, what is the difference between folding bead sidewalls and the other type?

LessonLearned 07-26-12 06:33 PM

Scrod, was thinking of putting a Leader S803 fork on my 08 Lager frame. Current stock fork has some serious rake. Is this reduction in rake ill-advised?
(see pedalroom link for pics if needed)

I never thought much about it before but my handling/steering is a bit "floppy", is this due to excessive fork rake?

(the desired effect of this fork upgrade is better handling, looks, and longer steer tube)

Folding beads fold.

We've got a couple of people who help out from time to time but for the most part it's me & Angie. If anyone's had wheels built lately, it was most likely Angie who built them.

Crap, I forgot. I'll ask about it tomorrow.

I do not but will try to find out when I ask about the 722RS geo chart.

And are slightly easier to seat, IMO.

Cool, thanks, I was curious. Now to find a badass girl who can build wheels to boot...

calv 07-26-12 06:59 PM

Did Angie quit her job (newspaper photography I think?) to operate the shop with you?
