Sorry, mang...missed it.

Angie uses a cross lever with a 24mm clamp, using one of those little rubber shims that come with reflectors and some lights cut to fit beneath 1/2 of the clamp. I have a pile of them if you need one.

That would be awesome. Could you send me two? Thanks!

There's always a cut-up old inner tube.

I did that for my wife's townie because I didn't have any of those shims for lights that I wasn't using. I gotta be better about not tossing things like that when I'm not going to use them.

I am building a 29er townie for my brother using mostly spares from 4-5 different people its actually pretty funny when you ask if someone has something and you end up trading for a few other things that you forgot you needed

Yeah, the funny thing is I have a box full of broken parts that I save because I might need something from them someday but yet I've thrown away my potentially useful shims. Ah well, now I have an old flatted innertube in there that I can cut up to make as many shims as I want.

Scrodzilla 08-13-12 07:37 AM

Any sensible bike shop will most likely have a pile of those shims and gladly give you one for free. The old shop I worked at threw them away by the handful.

Scrod,

I was looking at your bikes and every single wheel is slammed in the drop outs. I didn't see any half links, so you must know some kind of formula? Please share.

Thanks.

Scrodzilla 08-13-12 05:33 PM

They're close to being slammed but not quite. The 28c Rando on my Gara will hit my seat tube if I slam it.

MuppetMower 08-13-12 09:42 PM

Scrod,
How are you liking your bareknuckle? I have a chance to get one used for a good price on cl.

Scrodzilla 08-13-12 10:37 PM

I honestly couldn't be happier with it.

ddeadserious 08-13-12 10:50 PM

Scrod,

Any experience with the Novatec road hubs? Are they as nice as their track hubs? I'd like to replace the wheels on my Tarmac in the coming months and am considering a road wheel build equivalent to the track wheels you built me(28 or 32 hole). Figured I'd get A23's, hopefully from you if Velocity gets their **** together, or eBay as a last resort. Thoughts?

yummygooey 08-13-12 11:06 PM

bike specs call for a 29.8 seatpost collar; can i use a 30.0 collar (more options in 30.0)?

Yeah, they're the same. My Kilo called for a 30.0, I used a 29.8.

Angie has a Novatec A29SB-SL on the front of her 721TR and is happy with it. The front wheel on that bike weighs close to nothing.

FWIW - we can now get machined sidewall A23s in certain drillings.

Mmm thank you. Complete road wheelsets seem to be absurdly priced and I've been super happy with my Novatec/A23 fixed wheelset, and considering I could build one for cheaper than most lower-end road wheelsets, I think this is what I'll do. It's going to be a bit before I have the funds to do this, but I'll get ahold of you regarding A23 drillings and stuff when it's time.

bike-izle 08-14-12 07:54 AM

Scrod,

What's a reliable inner tube brand(s) that you've been happy with?

I'm not picky about tubes.

Crandrew 08-14-12 08:34 AM

S.Zilla- When shopping for a frame, that will be for street use, would you chose CroMo or butted Aluminum? Is there a reason not to run the aluminum frames? Thanks.
