Hey scrod, do you by any chance know what company this is?

IvyCap 08-11-12 02:15 AM

That company is PureFix Cycles. Run of the mill generic stuff.

JFarhanbod 08-11-12 02:28 AM

i traded some tec 9 wheels for them, good decision?

IthaDan 08-11-12 05:15 AM

I love how people only ever ask after the deal is done.

Why do so many people run larger rear tires? Just wondering....

Scrodzilla 08-11-12 07:46 AM

Here are three reasons:

1. Bigger, beefier tires last longer when skidding.

2. The rear tire takes the brunt of your weight when riding and a bigger rear tire provides a more comfortable ride overall.

3. It looks badass.

I forgot to notice on our ride the other day, how close is your tire to the tube? I know that thing would not fit on the Windsor for sure.

I might be able to fit a playing card in there. =]

I got rid of that tire though, too slow. Moved the Serfas to the rear and put a 25c GP4Ks on the front. I'M MUY MUCHO FASTER NAO!

What clamp size brakes did you use on the Dimension risers? My standard 23.8 is a bit too big :|

(Is it safe to beer can shim these?)

What brakes did you use on them? **** 22.2mm brakes are uuuuugly.

Brooks Swift vs Team Pro opinions? I've given up on the SE Turbo Reissue, it still hurts, get sores from it, etc. I put my Fizik Arione back on my bike and it's given me two big saddle sores. So I'm going the Brooks route, many people keep suggesting it to me. I do a lot of riding downtown, as a bike courier. Plus riding around the city, and long rides as well 40+ miles. Roughly about 350 miles a week. So opinions?

Or maybe the Brooks Imperial, with the cut out.

Double question. Thoughts on the DZR Minna SPD shoes? I'm wondering if the tread wears quickly where the cleat hits the ground when walking.

FWIW, I just got a Swift a couple of weeks ago (ordered it from Retrogression actually...about $60 cheaper than elsewhere). It was comfortable from Day 1, and most of my riding is urban, over fairly rough streets. Even with jeans and a worn out padded liner short, I'm astounded at the comfort. Surprisingly, it's already started to form the dimples for my sit bones. I haven't even given it a second proofide treatment yet. Didn't think it would be that quick, but I think I've read that the Swift runs a little softer. But so far, that only makes it more comfortable sooner.

It's also pretty good looking. Not quite as sporty as the Swallow (or as expensive), but looks great. I've never really like the big sides on the B17.

haven't tried the Team pro, so couldn't comment. But the team pro seems to have a wider curve from front to back. My legs are not little sticks, so I wanted something thinner like the Swift to avoid rubbing. The team pro is also 10mm wider at 160, and I find I'm pretty happy with 150.

Scrod,

Why do you prefer the Aero over the Aerohead or Fusion for your wheel builds?

A lot of people ask me that, mostly because the Aero's weight is close to that of a Deep V. I really like them because they are an incredibly solid rim and in my experience, they seem to really like staying true. I also think the low, rounded profile looks great.

If you don't like the Turbo, you may not like the Swift because their measurements are pretty close. I love my Swift but my old Team Pro was a little more comfortable. Your ass may vary.

Minnas are awesome. Angie wears hers pretty often and the cleat is recessed enough where it doesn't make much contact the ground.

I know the Team Pro is a racing saddle, but will it perform well in long distance rides in the drops/horns?

Scrodzilla 08-12-12 12:06 PM

Yes. The Team Pro was designed for use on bikes with more saddle-to-bar drop, where a saddle like the B17 was designed for use on bikes with a more upright position.
