Somewhat related to previous box question: Do you ever ship complete bikes? If so, what is your preferred shipper (Fedex, UPS, etc) in terms of rates and service?

Scrodzilla 03-01-13 06:30 PM

We sell All-City completes on our site and have shipped quite a few. USPS Parcel Select (which is a new business class rate introduced this year) takes 5-7 days in the continental US and costs much less than FedEx or UPS Ground.

Hey,
So I have been having some creaking problems on the left side of my BB/crank region whenever lots or pressure was applied. I was able to replicate it on the stand even. So I took it all out and regreased and reinstalled the BB and cranks and the creaking went away for a few days and came back today so I took it all out again and inspected it all. The crank arm looked good. No deformation or rounding of the interface. When I put it back together I could not replicate the creaking again. The BB is fairly new and was just installed a few weeks ago as well. Is there anything else that would be making the creaking noise or anything else that I should look out for?

Scrodzilla 03-01-13 06:34 PM

Creaks are the devil. How did you go about replicating it on the stand? Could it be a pedal?

jpsawyer 03-01-13 07:07 PM

ooh. it could be a pedal. I just pout lots of force on them with my hands by pushing on and pulling on the cranks. But it very well may be the pedal.

calv 03-01-13 10:55 PM

How long did it take you to build up your collection of tools, and did you have a "completed" set before you opened up Bikeage?

GENESTARWIND 03-02-13 06:56 AM

dear scrod i love my centurion, i love its lugs and its steel, Its feel and the semi tight geometry too . i love how it handles and how it feels. I want track ends and ease of chain tension. I cannot afford those wonderful custome lugged steel frames but ive looked at the kilo tt lugged and a few others but as ive googled and i have googled.

I came upon wearefactoryfive.come and asked you about in the past.
would factory fives http://www.wearefactoryfive.com/fram...ue-custom.html be to expensive for the quality they offer?
its lugged, its steel. its not something ill be buying SOON but just a thought. ive youve any ideas on lugged steel frames all recommendations are appreciated.
I understand this isnt a fancy shmancy frame.

edit
can you guess what ive been doing :)

europa 03-02-13 07:59 AM

Dear Scrod,
I desperately want to buy an S3X, and some rims, and some other rims and brifters for another bike, and some MKS Urban pedals for both bikes, and some straps for a third, and ...
But I don't have any money.

Should I stop paying my rent and utilities bills to buy the bike bits or should I just harden up and accept I can't afford them?

My Hillbrick is lugged and made with Zona tubing. I love the ride, it's not heavy and I expect to be riding this bike when I'm too old to turn the cranks. The job description I gave the frame builder specified all that and he chose Zona while having more expensive tubing to choose from. It's a good choice IMHO.

When I first got back into bikes and started riding fixed, I bought basic tools to maintain my own bike. Then I got a job at a shop and started buying a lot of bigger stuff (headset press, truing stand, etc) at cost over the span of a couple of years. Once Retrogression opened, one of the smaller distributors we work with offered me great 'new shop' discount program for buying tools and supplies so I dropped some pretty serious coin on tools I never would have needed if I weren't a shop owner (along with some I don't even really need now).

Your bills come first. Look around your house and sell a bunch of unneeded/unwanted stuff on eBay.

Angie did some housecleaning recently and made about $2000 selling stuff we were literally going to throw away.

I'm pretty sure you can buy a Colossi lugged track frame for less than that.

If budget is an issue, just buy a lugged Kilo. Those frames are actually pretty nice.

jpsawyer 03-02-13 02:31 PM

How do you buy from Colossi though? Do you just call them up and ask for one? There only seems to be one dealer in the US and no online store.

Scrodzilla 03-02-13 02:44 PM

Anyone can contact them and buy direct.

calv 03-02-13 02:48 PM

Wow, I actually like that geo. 54cm st and 53cm tt?

I have to say I'm a big fan of their Mondial Road (though I know this is the wrong forum to talk about my lust for geared bikes). I don't see a price listed, but I'm sure it's out of my range. I'm a huge fan of the classic lugged steel aesthetic on a new bike (fixed or geared) but I'm cheap, so I'm going to keep hoping I come across an unused 62cm late 80's/early 90's bike at a garage sale. Until then, I look and dream.

calv 03-02-13 03:31 PM

Who knows. Colossi doesn't seem to have ridiculous pricing compared to other brands. They might be totally affordable. Maybe you should email them to check it out.

Mumonkan 03-02-13 08:47 PM

what dates are you guys goin to SD?

i want to plan my orders accordingly lol

GENESTARWIND 03-03-13 05:11 AM

wow thanks scrod and holy **** colossi has some nice framesets...

time to start saving

out of curiosity why arent you a colossi dealer?

the mondial track, rambler pursuit, cheeko track, lo pro, rambler track and then they have custom stocks like the accelerator and niteo.

the accelerator is cool because of what they used to build it.
scandium!

For me it's ginger tea in the morning (this especially helps if you're a little nauseous), then something spicy with a lot of protein for lunch. My go-to is usually a breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs, chorizo, black beans, potatoes, cheese and a few different hot peppers.

Sometimes washing it down with a High Life mixed with orange juice (what we like to call a North Shore mimosa) works wonders too.

When are we all going to realize Scrod is just a plant for the Big Chorizo lobby?
