Hey Scrod,

I'm looking for a little more cushion on my new kilo tt. On a smooth surface it rides like a dream, but commuting on some of the these third-worldish streets is vibrating me and the bike apart. Tried inflating the stock Kenda 23c tires to 60psi and got a pinch flat in one day; now riding at 90psi.

I took some measurements and and it looks like 28c tires could fit... LBS recommended Schwalbe Marathons. Worth a try, or do I need to look at a different kind of frame?

60psi? It's no wonder you got a flat. All Kilos seem to be different in terms of tire clearance so without actually seeing the bike, I have no idea what will fit.

Schwalbe Marathnos are very durable tires but they're also heavy and a little sluggish (like Randos). If you can fit it, I'm going to suggest stuffing a 28c in the rear () and putting something like a 25c Durano Plus up front.

Scrod, did Bare Knuckles ever have bottle mounts?

Scrodzilla 12-08-12 03:59 PM

I know the first gen BKs had cable stops but I don't think they ever had bottle mounts.

Thanks! Can you explain the reasoning here (I know almost nothing about tires)? btw I have a minimum of 8mm clearance all around, so should be no problem.

The reasoning behind why you were getting flats or why I suggested those tires?

haha I know why I got the pinch flat... yeah the choice of tires. Why wider in back? Why Durano in front? Am I right in guessing that comfort and performance are basically a tradeoff, that this is a good compromise?

Most of your weight is over the rear half of the bike, which is precisely why a wider tire in the rear will make a world of difference. There's no real need to but a heavy, sluggish tire on the front. The Durano plus will be very flat resistant without making you feel like you're riding in 3" of mud.

Hey Scrod, that eye patch you sent in my package; is it meant to fit kids or do I just have a big head? It snapped when I tried it on :(

I seriously chuckled at work, got odd looks from my co-workers and then realized you didn't know. It's not an eye patch mate, that's a thong.

Yo dog, got that dust cap to work.

I went ahead and order one of each 1-1/8" compression ring that FSA offers, hoping one would work. I was originally just gonna get one, but they wanted like $11 shipping, and they rings were $3.25 each so I said **** it, and bought em all.

well anyways, one worked(actually two can, but one is plastic). It had a slightly lower stack height so no more gap.

fieeexed.

Dude, you should have asked me! I can get those FSA compression rings for close to no money.

I wasn't thinking! ****, haha.
It was only like 20 bucks, but still. damn it, lol.

Decided I'd go BB30 too, so now that adapter is on CL.
Looked it up, and the bearings are dumb ass cheap, and easy enough to install and remove once they start creaking.

hairnet 12-12-12 09:52 PM

Which adapter were you going to use?

Nagrom_ 12-12-12 10:24 PM

the FSA press in one.

Hey Scrod do you know of any good 16 spoke wheels, I think I saw you post something in an older thread. Thanks.

Scrodzilla 12-13-12 09:37 AM

You must be mistaken.

The_Joe 12-13-12 02:00 PM

Scrod,
I recently threw a new set of wheels on my bike. DA22 on joy tech hubs. They were cheap and it's my first SS conversion. After the swap from the old 27" x 1 1/4 I'm noticing more friction while pedaling. Is it a wheel thing or just a coincidental problem in my bottom bracket?

Knuxr 12-13-12 02:25 PM

Scrod,

I have had a Kilo TT Pro for a while now and I want to move onto something a bit nicer, so I have two questions:

1. Should I invest into more parts for the Kilo TT? (I already put a new saddle, pedals and stem/handlebars on it)
2. Or should I look into getting a new bike and if this is the case should I look for a prebuilt bike or go to a LBS and build one up?

I love my Kilo TT but I just want something newer and I also wanted to try out Aluminum frames.

What do you mean by "friction"?

The Kilo is a great frame and I don't see anything wrong with upgrading as you see necessary (just ask Nagrom). If you're happy with the frame, I vote for keeping it.

Nagrom_ 12-13-12 03:11 PM

Also, cool thing about it, when you eventually do see the need to upgrade the frame, everything is compatible with damn near every other frame.

That is, if you're using a 1-1/8" stem with a shim.

Indeed I am :thumb:

So what should I look into upgrading next? The Wheelset?
