Looks aside, how do you feel about lightweight wheels vs deep aero (40mm+) wheels? This would be for rides where the majority of the time I'm doing 20mph+ on flats, not just tooling around town.

Would it look odd to put a black stem on a black kilo TT with all silver components?

I have a cheap steel fixed gear commuter, it's heavy but frame fits me really well, so I'm considering getting a new wheelset built for it to liven it up... the wheels that came with it are boat anchors and the cheap Quando hubs are anything but smooth.
The tricky part is, I run a front disc brake (standard IS 6-bolt rotor); I'm having trouble finding a mid-high level front disc hub that's not specific for mountain biking (read: heavy and 32h). I'm only 140lbs, so I was hoping to find a nice IS disc-compatible 100mm 28h (or maybe even 24h?) front hub. I think that'd be plenty sturdy for my needs, and result in a much lighter wheel. Also, I'm leaning towards a novatec fixed/fixed 120mm rear hub, and A23's. I run 35mm tires. That all sound good too? |

Those Hutch pedals were around in the 80s too, dawg (considering that's when I raced BMX, which is what we were all talking about). I think they may have even come first.
|
My shins look like ground beef from my triple traps in the 90s. PC pedals are the best thing to happen to street bmx riders ever.

I defer to your memory. I've never followed BMX equipment very closely, but I do remember seeing the SunTour ones on mountain bikes in the early '80's.

Hey scrod, I'm putting risers and racks on my windsor hour and turning it more into a cruiser/ townie since I'm getting a new bike in the fall -
ANYWAY Can you recommend me a front rack or basket(the bigger the better) that I can put my new ~25lb french bulldog in for spins around town. Even if its just a big platform that i can modify a basket or a milk crate to. |

Wald makes some great baskets. You might want to look into their 157 Giant Delivery basket or 137 and 139 baskets. Both use support struts which I think would make for a stable and safe ride for your dog.
Googling them now, thanks ! **EDIT** Would your average risers work/be ideal bars to pair with a large basket? |
Risers work fine for the most part, I used a pair with my Wald 139 for awhile and it worked out just fine. However the only thing I noticed that the brackets that go over the bars took away room for me to mount my light in the center area of the bar. I measured the center flat area on my risers and from bend to bend it is about 110 mm long(which isn't very long at all). If you like having your light mounted in the center I would try to find something with a wider flat area, if not things might get interesting for mounting it there.

I was thinking to myself yesterday how happy ive been that my wheels havent needed any adjustments and then this happened today:
http://distilleryimage8.s3.amazonaws...0a1f97fa_6.jpg rims slightly out of true pulling away from that side also how could this have happened if i didnt hit anything? |
You must have hit something. Is there a broken spoke somewhere?
|
shredded too much gnar
|
Any experience with Miche cogs? In terms of durability and tooth profile.
|
I've never used them but I (admittedly unfairly) have it set up in my head that I hate them.
Angie just started using the carrier and a 17t cog on her Vig. I'll report back after she's got some miles on it. The tooth profile is similar to that of an All-City cog (which is good) and it's pretty quiet on her bike. |

thing is i hit gnarly ass bumps all the time and today i didnt encounter anything quite as bad since the bad sections have been repaired i noticed this after a climb (which i remained seated for) and looked down at my wheel and was all "wtf?" good thing i noticed it then because there was teh fastest descent of the day coming up, probably wouldve ate **** hard. |
I'm converting my Paramount to SS. I'll probably use the Deda Dritto bar. Are there any decent looking two finger levers with a 22.2mm clamp that come in all silver? Everything seems to be black.
|
It's bigger than two-finger but the Tektro FL750 always looks nice on a 22.2 flat bar.

any tips on truing my wheel so it stays that way?
whats a good way to keep the spokes from winding up? |
