my 725. but a friend bought a bike today and asked me to take it for a spin for some reason (she bought it off CL) and it reminded me of that situation. I wondered how scrod would've handled it.

When and if you go bowling, is it candlepin or normal style?

I'd start off by telling them nicely to stop (once) and if they didn't, I'd have no trouble putting tears in their eyes one way or another.

Candlepin. There aren't many places around here that use the normal, larger pins.

hamish5178 11-01-11 09:27 AM

TIL: there is more than one type of bowling.

Scrodzilla 11-01-11 09:33 AM

Candlepin bowling is a tri-state New England (MA, NH and ME) thing originally introduced by the Canadians and uses smaller pins and balls than traditional ten pin bowling. It's not typically found in other parts of the country.

Didn't even know that you could find that anywhere in the states. I used to see it when I visited my wife (then girlfriend) at her parent's house. At first I thought it was some sort of skeeball-on-steroids meant for kids.

LesterOfPuppets 11-01-11 02:58 PM

Back in the day we used to hit a duckpin bowling alley. Same ball as candlepin, but shorter versions of tenpin style pins.

Also, while we're on Boston specialities, Dr. McGillicudy's? I have a couple friends that just went to Boston and they're telling me about all the wierd crap there they'd never seen and convincing me I should go sometime.

If you ever come visit, I'm not allowing you to drink Dr. McGillicruddy's.

I grew up and lived in NH/MA for a long time, but my parents are from the midwest, where candlepin bowling doesn't exist. My dad jokingly calls it "overhand" bowling. Side note: playing it that way WILL get you thrown out of the bowling alley.

10-pin, candlepin, whatever, both are pretty fun.

Fair enough. However, if you ever come to Chicago, you gotta drink some Malort. It's a Chicago right of passage.

Forgot you travelled extensively. I love Malort man. I'll admit it's an acquired taste, but I dig it. Malort and Coke with a squeeze of lime? I prefer it over Captain and Coke any day.

Sweet. If I weren't an Apple fanboy, I'd go for a Samsung or one of the Nexus phones.

In all honesty, I didn't have one and never gave it much thought. I just roll with it.
