You'll be okay. You could always use a half link if it's too far back for you. If you do, be sure to get one specifically made for K710 chains.

And yeah, those Soma cogs should be here soon.

I happen to prefer steel clips and double straps but I do find the V.track straps to be really comfortable when riding in Vans. If you want a personal shopper though, you should ask carleton. (I'm kidding)

Sweet. I'll be putting a 16T or 17T cog on soon, which should move it forward enough. It just worried me a little since it's past where the chain tensioners touch the axle.

Where can I find a half link specifically for this chain? A quick search didn't yield anything.

KMC makes two different types of half-links - the ones for standard chains are grey in color and the ones for K710 chains are chrome. I think we're going to start stocking them because they can be a nuisance to find.

Looking into building up a 51cm Leader 721 and after searching the forums for cranksets, I think I'm going to pick up the SRAM S-300's. Good match for the 721? It will be a 48t and likely to be paired up w a 17 or 18t cog... also, 170 cranks okay?

Also, what do you think of the nashbar carbon fork?

Sorry calv - I crashed out on you. Determining spoke length is pretty easy, as most manufacturers list the numbers for their rims and hubs. If you ever do need to measure yourself, this will help.

Also, another really easy spoke calculator can be found here.

There are also a couple of books you should look into and keep on hand for reference. The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst Brandt is a must have and The Art of Wheelbuilding by Gerd Schraner shows an extremely easy way to lace spokes that I find to be much quicker and more effective than the traditional method.

S-300s are an awesome choice and you won't have any trouble with 170s. - even on a smaller 721 frame, there will be no toe overlap. If you're short or have short legs they may be a little overkill though. 48/17 or 18 are really nice mid-range ratios.

I don't have any first-hand experience with the Nashbar fork. maybe someone who has one can chime in.

I'm not sure how the geometry and measurements differ from the aluminum frames to the 722, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm having a great time on the 722. I've been really appreciating having no pedal strike or toe overlap(something that was a common occurrence on my Swift). It has made riding so much more pleasant So, thanks!

Yes. An easier gear such as 48/18 will be much easier to skid with.

Much easier to skid than 48/15. 48/17 will give you 17 skid patches. 48/18 only gives you 3.

Finding a good quality orange tire is tough. Your only option may be Fyxation and those run around 50 bucks a pop.

what about thickslicks? they can be found closer to 30 bucks... or are they too heavy to be as awesome as they seem on paper?
