Pretty sure that would only be a concern if it's really low-quality chrome. I know someone who filed off the tabs on a steel Colossi fork 2+ years ago and the chrome is fine.

I've filed down areas of chrome moped parts a few times and have never seen the surrounding chrome start to peel either.

I just want something that is pretty comfy. Probably not super narrow because I'd probably eat ****. Just 'normal' width, if there is one. Super wide also feels like I'd randomly eat **** if I clipped something. I don't think I'd want them much wider than my drops, tbh. I think those are a 42, or 44. Also something that can fit a brake lever so I don't die.

It's really just to be more comfy commuting here and there.

I think that ratio is pretty stupid. There's a kook here in town riding 55/13 gearing and he literally has to walk up every hill he encounters. What's the point?

well there are no hills in my area :/ at all. so it's not much a deal breaker. when i go to different cities i change to a 56:15 with i can climb hills super easy. but i was just wondering if any other people ride this as well.

Actually they do, but you need a special lockring and can't use deep no-drop chains. There was this beastly national team sprinter that used to train at my track with a 12T cog.

Seriously. For some reason everyone thinks Southern California is flat.

GX1 is a fine choice or GP1 or go for another if you want some bar ends. The GP series is certainly more comfort oriented while GX1 is more race oriented but both would be comfy! I haven't used or seen the downhill/enduro grips in person so I cannot say if they are good comfort wise or not but knowing Ergon they probably are.
