Scrod,

After adding up the cost to get me rolling on a new 722 Heritage with fork and headset, I'm somewhere around $500-$600 with shipping(assuming your prices will be near the prices at coghouse). At that price, I could have a Kagero on one of those $599 specials.

The questions: How does the Kagero ride in comparison to the 722 and which one do you prefer to ride in general? Do you know if PC will be putting the Kagero back on sale for $599 again?

You already have a 722. Get something else and have two bikes which are different from each other.

My two bikes may have a lot of similar parts but are totally different. I like riding each one equally but my 722 is more for shorter rides and bombing around town and I typically use my Kagero for longer hauls.

There aren't many 2011 Kageros left so if you're going to jump on one, you'd better do it quick!

Seriously. You hardly even need tools at all.

Probably not. Not facing the headtube - if needed - will cause premature wear of your headset bearings (if anything). Ask your lbs.

Man you always gotta put the pressure on! Won't have any money until my tax return arrives, and I haven't even got my W2's yet. Hopefully I don't miss out.

Have you ever gone snowboarding?

Santaria 01-18-12 07:44 PM

Dear Scrod,

Pardon my french, but I truly am curious. Do you struggle with not strangling people who come onto the FG/SS forums and ask a question - then get snide and butthurt when they don't get treated with kid gloves? Like, do you hover over the "nuclear option" key with them? Oh how I do not envy your position.

Yes, and I hated every second of it.

I do get frustrated. It's perfectly alright for noobs to ask questions - if you go back to my firsts posts here you'll see that I asked quite a few dumb questions myself - but when one gets mad because they don't hear the answer they already had planned out in their heads and starts throwing stray insults around in my house, that really pisses me off. I typically PM them explaining where they are going wrong. Sometimes it works, other times it's a total disaster.

What about skiing?

Scrodzilla 01-18-12 07:56 PM

I've never been skiing. I'm a pro at sledding with a beer in my hand, though:

I want to go night sledding now.

Maybe you should change your screen name to Bubbazilla.

Can a Formula front track hub be radial laced without popping the bearings?

Scrodzilla 01-19-12 01:36 PM

Judging by the number of them I've seen, I'm fairly certain it can be.

Xgecko 01-19-12 01:56 PM

that's nice to know, I can build a radial laced wheel myself

ddeadserious 01-19-12 02:15 PM

I have another few questions.

I looked through some Kagero builds on PR and see that almost(if not all) of them use straight seatposts with no setback. Is there something with the geometry that causes setback to not be necessary with the "pursuit" style geometry?

How "limited" are what's left of the Kagero stock? Obviously, I know you can't know how everyone's stock is, but do you anticipate they'll be all gone in the next month or two?

Do you have a layaway/payment plan?

Nagrom_ 01-19-12 10:19 PM

crankset is on a too long of a spindled BB. What happens?

i.e.: 107mm crank on a 110mm BB.

Scrodzilla 01-19-12 10:24 PM

Your chainline will be off by a few mm - possible causing a little noise and premature wear.

what if the rear wheel is dished to compensate?

yummygooey 01-20-12 08:17 AM

That's not how it works.

Scrodzilla 01-20-12 08:18 AM

Seriously. Think about it. You would need to re-space your hub to compensate, then dish the wheel to center it in the frame. It's much less trouble (and less janky) to just use the correct BB.

hamfoh 01-20-12 05:42 PM

follow up to the earlier question:

so I put brakes on the 722 and the pads are as low as they can go and just baaaarely get to the braking surface. once the pad starts to wear down I'm worried about tire rub and will have to keep an eye on it.

Is this something from having a frame in 58cm or a 722 thing in general? the brakes are r710s, but I'm wondering if long reach may be necessary? Only the rear was like this, the front was fine.

hairnet 01-20-12 06:02 PM

Try sliding the wheel forward. If it works then you'll need to then shorten the chain

/not scrod

Scrodzilla 01-20-12 06:08 PM

I've never put a rear brake on a 722 so I have no idea. But yeah, sliding the wheel forward should "fix" it.

PlattsVegas 01-20-12 06:10 PM

you could grind down the adjustment area of the break arm. Looks like there is plenty of real estate to trim it a shade.

Scrodzilla 01-20-12 06:14 PM

Also, how many washers are between the brake and the frame?

Philasteve 01-21-12 02:18 PM

Hey Scrod did you get a lot of snow in MA today? Do you enjoy throwing some knobbies on and riding threw the snow?

Scrodzilla 01-21-12 02:31 PM

We've got about 3" here on the coast, which will most likely be gone by tomorrow. I do enjoy riding in the snow and I keep saying I want to build a SS 29er for winter use but I never seem to get around to doing it...
