Dannihilator 06-01-12 06:35 PM

I've done it for a friend and hated every moment of it.

Dannihilator 06-01-12 08:52 PM

Scrod,

Am I the only one here who hates the frame color of my 930?

FakeFuji 06-01-12 09:13 PM

Whilst I am /notscrod, I'd say if you love the bike, powder coat it and make it a dannihilator 930

Dannihilator 06-01-12 09:28 PM

I like the bike, but I have absolutely hated the color since I got it.

I like the color but would like it more if it were glossy.

I think so. You also use it enought to warrant a paint job.

Harlequin bar tape.

I bagged it. Not all that hard, but didn't like how thin cotton tape was and couldn't get it to sit right over padding (old tube), not sure what I was expecting, but meh. Wound up with some nice white perf synthetic something fizik tape. Looks pretty good TBH.

Hey Scrod and the notscrod consortium,

This might be asking a bit much, but I'm trying to figure out what stem length to get for a 53cm 722 ts. I got all my measurements and I used the fit calculator on competitive cyclist, but I'm still having issues.

I'm between 5 8" and 5 9", 31" inseam. I know fit is subjective, but I'll take anything I can get. I'm currently running a 90mm Thomson X4 on a 2009 Raleigh that has a slightly different head tube angle, but comparing the frames side by side with the bb's and seat tubes/chain stays lined up, the 722 head tube sits about 1 cm ahead of the Raleigh. Should I just shoot for an 80 mm stem? Apologies if this is overkill on my part, thanks.

Scrodzilla 06-03-12 04:36 PM

Try the 90mm you have on hand and base your decision on how that feels.

BigglyPuff 06-03-12 05:01 PM

I'm an idiot.

Thade 06-03-12 05:39 PM

Scrod,

sorry if this has been asked

I often see you recommend products that are not available at Retrogression. I know the reason, cause you're a stand up guy... just wondering how you resist the urge to sell, sell sell & balance things out

Scrodzilla 06-03-12 05:57 PM

I recommend things I have experience with or think are good products/value, not just to sell stuff.

For such a small shop, RG does a good amount of business. While we do add new stuff to the site from time to time, there's no real need to try to sell everything under the sun. Besides, there are other places out there - like Velomine and Ben's Cycle - who have decent prices (VM's wheelset prices blow my mind), treat their customers well and are generally awesome to deal with. None of us are getting rich selling bike parts and at the end of the day, we all need to eat.

Sabby. 06-03-12 06:34 PM

Hey scrod i just ordered some stuff and i just wanted to know how long does your shipping take? I live in new york

Adrian_ 06-03-12 06:44 PM

I live in NY too and it usually takes 2-3 days for stuff to get here maybe one more for processing.

notscrod

Sabby. 06-03-12 07:40 PM

alright thanks man

calv 06-03-12 07:43 PM

Friendly reminder: Ask Scrod is for questions unrelated to Retrogression (most of the time), if you have questions about orders and whatnot you get from RG, take it to the RG thread in the marketplace.

What calv said.

Also, the FAQ page on the site exists for a reason.

TylerMatthews 06-04-12 03:00 PM

Scrod,

Possibly Retro related, if so ignore this. Until I stumbled across this thread I was planning on upgrading to an Omnium crankset. I ride roughly 18 miles a day in Boston. Even though I'm light there is definitely some torque involved sprinting light to light. Can you recommend a few alternatives? I don't mind a higher priced set if the life will be significantly longer.

Scrodzilla 06-04-12 03:25 PM

Your question is more related to crankset choice than to RG. What are you using now?

Omniums are a great, very stiff crankset (although I have seen quite a few QC issues recently) but I had bad experience with the GXP bottom bracket. Angie has a set on her 721TR now and they are problem free so far. She's also about half my weight.

Andels are great bang for the buck but I find them to be pretty damn ugly - especially the non drive side arm. If you're going to splurge and want a crankset that will last a long time, go with 75s and a Protype BB from Ben's.

Appreciate the advice. I'm actually running a crankset I pulled off of my previous Masi Speciale about a month ago. You can find a photo of the drive side in the PedalRoom link below. Fairly certain this thing is literally bending during an all out sprint, haha. Upgrades are overdue. I haven't come across the Omnium without the BB included, I think I've ruled that one out from the collective experience people have had with that setup. Just checked out the Sugino with the Prototype, what is your take on the Sugino Messenger?

Scrodzilla 06-04-12 06:38 PM

The Messenger is a good crankset but most likely won't be much stiffer than the Brev M crank you already have.

TylerMatthews 06-04-12 06:45 PM

Weak. Ok, round 2. Can you give me another good, better, best scenario? Thanks for your time man.

Dannihilator 06-04-12 09:57 PM

Wheels for the DMR again this winter, 26" Velocity P35's or Sun Ringle MTX 33's?

Going with the Halo DJD hub.

Scrodzilla 06-04-12 10:01 PM

Velocity P35s to Halo DJDs FTW.

Dannihilator 06-04-12 10:05 PM

That's what it will be then.

AristoNYC 06-04-12 10:20 PM

Mr Scrod
Anything structurally wrong with the Leader 727 or do people only hate on it due to aesthetics?
Thanks,
Aristo

Scrodzilla 06-04-12 10:23 PM

People just don't like it because it's an ugly duckling.
