Resale Value of BD Gravity Frame

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ift2_track.htm

I'll be taking most of the parts off my current bike(Swift 2, above) to build up my new frame.

The frame will still have the headset and crankset/BB installed. Otherwise will be bare(no fork either).

Just curious what would be a reasonable price to tell the frame for.

$150 sounds a bit right.

Depends, what type of string?

Really? I'd be thrilled to get that much out of it. Anybody else think this sounds reasonable?

Sounds like a good asking price, I'd take a bill if it were offered to me. Even though I still think you should keep it as a beater!

I might keep it still, just trying to see what it'd be worth to decide whether or not it's worth it to sell it.

If I could sell this for $150, I'd likely turn around and buy a Bonktown Draft Lite as a beater for an extra $50. Plus then I could put some beefy tires on it and rock it in the snow!

That sounds like I'd be torn between the two as well. I'm a fan of SE bikes even though they might be considered low brow around here. I own an '06 draft, a 25cm SE floval flyer bmx, as well as a DC special edition PK Ripper frame set (which I'm trying to sell atm). Now that I think about it you're including the headset and crank / bb so $150 wouldn't be too steep imo. What crank and headset are on it btw? This is my draft beater:

I played middleman on a sale of a purple Draft Lite from a friend to my brother last night, and I fell in love with the way it rode. I was nice and upright, it rode like a Cadillac compared to the aluminum Swift and had such a solid feel. Just seems like a bike I could buy, put a comfier saddle on, and just ride it without the itch to upgrade a bunch of stuff. I could totally handle the red one. Your draft is very nice, definitely digging the subdued neutral tones(the complete opposite of how they come now). The Swift has a Cane Creek headset and the BB/crank is just a generic black alloy set. Some part(either the spider arms or the chainring) is slightly bent, but I've had absolutely no issues with it.

The product SE produces is totally undermined I feel, especially with their newer models. They aren't bad intro bikes by any means. Thanks for the compliment on my draft, however there isn't one stock component left on that frame. The components it came with were horrid, but I feel that that has changed over the couple years SE has had to play around with things. I had a friend who purchased an SE Draft Light fairly recently and I was surprised at how much better his bike felt stock compared to mine when I bought it. But then again I bought the draft when they were first entering the ss/fg bike game.

Ahh nice. I'm sure it'd be hard to get rid of it after replacing almost everything on it! What was the original color scheme? Was it loud and obnoxious, or just crappy parts?

It wasn't loud by any means, fairly same color scheme, (dark gray on silver/black), but not quality either. Super straight bars that were way to wide, a one piece crank, and the flimsiest wheel set that I've ever ridden on. Although SE seems to be using better components, some of their completes seem to be a bit loud like you mentioned.

Nice. The current model really seems like a solid bike. The riser bars could stand to have 1.5"-2" off the ends and the grips moved in, as well as a not-****ty saddle. Wheels seems pretty solid now too. Good to hear they've stepped up their game.

It sounds like you've put a fair amount of work into your Draft, what made you decide to build a Leader?

I finally decided it was time to upgrade to a nicer frame, and had always wanted a Leader frame set. Pretty simple lol!

If its a decent frame that fits you, just hang onto it if you aren't desperate for the money. At various times I've had spare frames lying around and have always ended up using them at on time or another. You'll probably upgrade your new frame to the point that you can reassemble your old bike. I've done that before, then you have a spare for crappy weather.

Thanks. That option is definitely on the table. For now, I will be taking most of it for the new frame, but I will eventually upgrade the seat post to a lighter one, which means I can put that back. I still have the original handlebars/hoods, so I could install those if I ever upgrade the fork/stem. I'd imagine I could slowly build it back up with cheaper components over the winter/spring and have a full additional bike. I just have a feeling I won't ride it!

You will ride it. I have ten bikes. The longer you ride one bike the more interesting you other bikes begin to look. I easily ride all of mine at least one a month.

If you can get $100 for it sans fork I'd be shocked. Framesets are always going to be tougher to sell than complete bikes, especially lower end framesets. Once you take the fork off, it makes it even tougher. There was a guy around here trying to sell a steamroller frame, granted it didn't have a crank or bb, for $80. It took him damn near three months to sell it at that price. Problem is, again with lower end stuff, that once you take the time to price out even a budget build buying a complete new bike often time ends up being cheaper.

Also because the crown race for the headset isn't included, at least assuming that it's still on the fork, in all likelihood whoever buys the frame will have to have a new headset pressed in anyways. Sorry to be a downer but if you're looking for honest feedback there it is.
