Clipless Pedals??

alright so I broke my pedal and just noticed it tonight!!! They're a cheap pair of ritchey v1 pedals (the ones that come in all kinds of crazy colors) that I got out of a parts bin. Anyway i've been planning on replacing them because they're doing this weird thing where they don't clip out but the cleat moves up in the pedal while staying in. Not really float, but it's really weird on top of that i've been clipping out accidentally a lot lately. For those who know a couple times it's been while decending beacon hill!!

Now for the question. What model and or make of pedals that are cheap (<$50) would cure these probles i'm having? And also where could I get them?

supergo.com has crank brothers candys on sale, if you're into the eggbeater thing. i just put mine back on with some new cleats; no problems so far, brakeless and been down lots of hills.

Bikes: KHS track, Cannondale tour

Anyone using Crank Brothers pedals with road shoes? They they have (2) cleat kits, which is best: 'Road Shoe Cleat' or 'Quattro Cleat'?

Goal is to choose the most recessed & durable product. Both are compatible with the eggbeater and candy pedals.

what does everyone think about time pedals? They've been recomended to me by a few people but they seem a little expensive and appear to have a similar mechanism to the crank brothers pedals.

Bikes: A whole bunch-a bikes.

It sounds to me like your cleat needs to be tightened down. It's come loose thats all...

They're tightend all the way that they'll go. . . and then some I think I even stripped one of the bolts. I'm not even sure if I can get them out of the shoes!

oh and I do need to replace the pedas because a part of the pedal broke off.

i have the 540s, and i think they're almost the same as the 520s (the ones in that ebay picture look more like the 540s, actually). there's a big difference between the shimano cleats and the eggbeater/time atacs: adjustable tension. the shimanos have it, the eggbeaters/atacs don't. what's your preference? if you want to adjust, these ones are good.

The Time Atacs and Eggbeaters are solid pedals and keep you in pretty good. Too good in my case. I always had difficulty getting out of those non adjustable designs when I was mtn biking.

Accidentally pedal release can be hair raising indeed.

I was cruising and deciding to sprint and into my 4th sprinting stroke, my left foot came out of my SPD Wellgo pedal and I ate it pretty bad. On a freewheel bike, my other foot just would have suck down to 6 o'clock position and be nothing. Lucky I was on my cheap fixie. Would have been bummed out if I crashed my new Pista. Put a dent in my helmet, good thing for that lid on my head!
