super wide bars on fixed bikes confuse me a bit too, I like mine in the middle...of course, I'm not really splitting cars or anything, so super narrow isn't all that necessary for me.

I like my bars wide; when I run drops I run 46cm, but my risers tend to be a bit narrower than that. The risers I just bought the other day are 42cm and they're almost too narrow for me. I think I'd prefer them a bit wider, but these will suffice for now.

It looks like Cinelli Pepper bars are 54cm, so I guess that's the width of mine.

I think the stock bars on my mtb are around 70-75cm, so 54 feels rather narrow for me when I go back to the beater.

It's actually funny, because it turns out, these are the widest bars I own!

19" is around 48cm.



These are listed online as 38cm.



And these drops are my narrowest of all! Probably around 36cm.



(I know you're supposed to measure center to center and not end to end...but between holding the bikes up between my knees, holding the measuring tape with one hand, and my phone with the other...it was hard enough getting these photos. Trying to hover the measuring tape over the center would have been quite a task)

two was not enough. i should have taken an extra bottle with me. i always pass this natural spring on the side of the trail during the descent, but today i had a reason to stop. fingers crossed i contract giardia or something and get stomach cramps on top of leg ones.

springs are probably cleaner than your tap water, ive had good luck with even the strangest of drips that could feebly be deemed a "spring"

i wish i had a spring in my kitchen instead of a faucet tbh

I have a set of nitto drops that flare out at the ends...they measure 42cm from end to end but the tops are too narrow. I'm taking those off and putting the super wide MAP bars on, lol.

I've always drank from springs when I'm hiking/camping/riding and never had any issues. People are just germophobes nowadays.

More like weeks. The lingering effects can last three months.

Giardia is real. Anyone who drinks untreated water in the wild and hasn't gotten sick has just been lucky, that's all. Some people never get symptoms but become carriers.

Aquamira is what you need if you think you will be drinking from springs/streams.

Meh, life is a series of calculated risks. Do you ever ride without a helmet? Eat a rare steak? Jaywalk? Wash your fruits/vegetables before you eat them?

I think longer bars will be perfect for when my bicycle ever gets up to 400lbs. Also, are those DIY knee sliders?

Yes they are.

I hate plastic sliders. Too slippery, noisy, and no feedback, like a bar of soap. Leather sliders (old school Mick Doohan style) are my preference, but they aint cheap. Leather has a little grip that helps decelerate things when you are trying to save a lost front end with your knee. So, I gave the local shoe repair man a slider to use as a pattern. He stacked and glued four sheets of shoe sole leather to make them. He made me about 40 pucks. I just used an industrial stapler to fasten to the Velcro backing. They last longer than plastic too. The extra bonus is they burn if you work 'em hard and the resulting smell is distracting as hell to the guys behind you.

This building used to be a train depot servicing the "Silver Comet" streamliner train that ran between Atlanta and Birmingham. The rail bed is now the Silver Comet Trail which goes from Atlanta all the way to Alabama.
