Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

thanks for the replys everyone! still undecided but everyones got me thinking about lightening the load a bit. pretty sure no one likes pushing around the extra pounds, so i'm looking at other rim options. the reason i picked the phil's is because i used to have a set a while back and also used them back in the early 80's when i raced bmx so i know the build is good. i pick the v's cause i wanted to stay at aprox. 30mm for rim height as are the ellipses. currently i have cxp33's on formula hubs which i moved over from my commuter. i thought about h plus son f30's for something different from the norm, but they're even heavier. thats why i'm floating around the ellipse idea. if they are strong enough to take the occasional curb, coblestone trek, and my 160lbs of girth, then thats what i'd be going with.

if that was true i wouldn't be looking at other rim options senior... every response was read and thought about. but my reasoning why i choose phil wood hubs still stands.

I've been jonesing to build up a wheel set with American Classic hubs laced to HED Belgium C2s or Velocity A23s. A little more expensive than the ellipses but wayyyyyy lighter.
