Having trouble with omniums...
So i bought Omniums from some dude offa craigslist and i ran into a very profound problem. I went to Mikes bikes in berkeley to install them / get a gxp bb (The guy selling them didnt have the original) and when the bike mechanics installed it the spider hit my frame. Its an Eigthinch scrambler.. I seen other posts with people having no trouble fitting omniums on their scrambler so im confused.
Is it because of the non-stock bb? (Its a gray sram team gxp bb)
I thought all gxp bbs were compatible, am i wrong?

As another poster mentions in that thread, I would just take a punch and dimple the chainstay to give you the clearance you need.
And yes, all SRAM GXP bottom brackets would work the same with your crankset, it's the spindle attached to the crankarm that varies for mtb 73mm shells.

my scrambler (55cm) didnt seem to have the best clearance either
i used some origin8 cranks with it and with the 107mm bb the chainring was probably 4mm from the chainstay, when i put the ring on the inside of the spider it would rub against it
i have a feeling using anything that needs a 103mm bb wouldnt fit without some "manipulation" to the stays
i used the same bb/cranks on my 722 and theres miles of clearance now

Maybe its just the frame. I was planning on upgrading to a leader 722 or a mercier kilo ( only if i could find one on CG) as well if it really is an upgraded. I guess my omniums and mks gr9s will just sit in my closet for a while..

Omniums are notorious for having fitment problems and variances in the spider thickness. There are tons of Kagero with Omniums, but I HAD to file the backs of the spider on mine for them to fit. It's a crap-shoot, it seems.

Im not comfortable filling the back of the cranks. Someone should really make a thread showing which frames are compatible (without any modification) with the omniums! I dont want other people to spend 200+ for these cranks to find out they dont fit. Just waiting for black friday or somethin for a sale on a 722ts 53cm,

The point is that it's hit or miss. Nobody could say for sure "OMNIUMS FIT ON KAGERO", because the QC on the Omniums seem to be subpar, but there are so many Kagero with Omniums on them(check pedal room).

Omniums are track racing cranks that are designed for competition track bikes, which typically have narrower frames with chainstays that don't bow out like a street fixed gear.

I can assure you that the issue was not with the frame, but with the cranks. The first set of Omnium was so bad I had to return them. Two of the spiders were super thick, and the other three were not. The issues was the same with my second set, but not as severe.
Scrod can vouch for the first set having a serious variance in thickness.

It's the QC on the Kageros that's subpar. Forged parts like cranks don't change shape or alignment, as they're molded. Welded frames have to be mounted to an alignment jig and there is obviously room for error.

Unless you've had similar experience, your claims are meaningless.
