This frame
I'm really toying with the idea of building up a fixie as my interest has been sparked here and on fixedgeargallery.com.
I'm 5'-6" short, so am thinking this one might be a good fit:
jeunet frame
What do y'all think of this frame, and how much do you think it is worth? I'm thinking I could re-paint it and build it up with used parts from Citybikes.

I think it's not worth it for $25 in shipping. That will pretty much drown any savings you might have. I don't personally know Citybikes, but I know of them and I hear the selection is quite huge. I would go there to find a frame.

But being new to this, and having just bought a fairly stripped down frame off ebay in order to build it up, I wish I hadn't.
The ebay experience was fine, the frame was what I wanted and arrived in great condition, but with shipping etc. the total cost came out to about $65 -- frame, headset, fork, BB. Since then, the frame's sat in a closet as I've tried to figure out what parts to get, while I've been watching complete Schwinn Super Sports and 70s mercier (with a second wheelset) go on craigslist in DC for $60 to $70. Granted, the frame wasn't as cool-looking as this one.
My point is if you like this frame, bid for it. If you're more interested in building-up a fixed gear than having a fixed Jeunet (can't help you as to its worth, sorry), you can save a lot of time and money by getting some of the components with the bike, locally, for the same price as winning+shipping.
my $.02
edit: admitted I don't know crap about the frame. Other than I think it's purdy.

I believe, but am not certain, that frame is from this model:

One of the oddities of this particular Jeunet frame is it has no integral derailleur hanger, unlike almost all other hi end French bikes of the time. I've seen a couple, and can vouch this is how they were stock.
The lack of 531 stickers is a concern for purposes of identification, but they're almost completely gone on a couple of my old Frenchies. So their lack isn't an entire worry. A lower end entry level bike would not have the Simplex drops. It's a decent frame, quite likely hand built, given the age.
The French threading is a minor pain. The lack of a BB concerns me, and although Sugino or Sakae still makes one, they're pricey (about 55$). You can reportedly use a BB for stripped BB shells; YST makes a sealed one for under 18$. You can still find French HS, but if you're going to run a French bike, I recommend some parts hoarding. You can also find used French parts, contact this citibikes to see if they have any.
French frames tend towards a very relaxed geometry and make comfortable urban fixies. There are a couple of exceptions to this geometry, notably most Gitanes and a few Peugeot PX variants.

citybikes has some french parts at their main store on 20th, but It might be hard to find a complete bottom bracket. best high performance option is phil wood cups and cartridge but you'll pay for it. check sheldon brown and Harris Cyclery for options from $20 to the above mentioned $150.
I've got an old french bike ("cycles equipe smc" - can't find any info) that I bought for parts for my lejeune. I haven't touched the bottom bracket yet. it's got a three arm cottered crankset, steel of course (what's that they say? steel is real?) but only one french thread pedal. wait, maybe I need it. nevermind. I'll sell you the frame and forks with no bottom bracket for a half rack of miller lite. Its purple and it's your size.
I've actually been looking into replacing my french BB with a new cartridge set up so I can go with a more modern square taper crank set but I'm a little too cheap to do it right now.

are you properly fitted on a 53cm frame at 5'6? seems like a smaller frame (with room to stretch) would give you more options.
neat frame though, i watched it for a minute but then decided that buying bike frames off of ebay is a waste of time and money. frames are usually go for at least 20 bucks and shipping is usually the same or more. if you have some time and motivation, you can find a complete bicycle at a thrift store for under $40. plus, you'll be able to see it in person, measure, and haggle.

Bikes: crappy fake bike
I was looking at this frame myself. A previous poster was right, the lugs look sloppy eventhough their shape mimics and ornate look. The decals looks like other decals on cheap bikes. I bet this bike is very heavy with lead pipe tubing. I had an experience with a bike that had a "pinarello" sticker on it that looked like this visually. It was just a crappy lead pipe piece of crap. I would say wait for a frame with better tubing, because this looks like a heavy production bike. You can pick up frames on ebay sometimes for like $50 with 531 tubing if you look hard enough. I just bought a late 70s Trek with Reynolds 531 tubing, brooks saddle, and shimano 600 component group and it was only like 100 bucks or so. Plus, theres the hassle of getting French parts for a frame that really isnt worth it. Save the trouble get something better.

The presence of the Simplex drops suggests otherwise. They would not be found on a lower level frenchie from this period. The decal sets on French bikes generally stayed pretty consistent thru the model range-- the decal set on a AO8 (low level peugeot) does not look much different than that on a PX10 (best peugeot) from the same period, for example, so that's no clue as to quality. Half chromed rear stays, like on this bike, usually indicate a better frame as well, though not always.
However, the comments about French parts are correct. Probably best to buy a French frame only if you're really inclined to tinker with the frame yourself, and don't mind the search for parts. They're not as hard to find as many suggest, but they do tend to mystify a lot of LBSs.

I really dont think those simplex dropouts meant hat the frame tubing isnt heavy. I doubt these frame are even butted much less double butted. That equals heavy piece of crap to me. I would just wait for a better frame.
