SF - Who wants to go to Hellyer?

I thought about posting this in the Track section, but figured that there is more traffic here.

Anyway, I've been wanting to get down to Hellyer but haven't had the motivation to do it yet. I can drive three other people down there (no bikes, I'm gonna rent), probably on Feb 19th. Anyone interested? I figure that I'm much more likely to go if there are other people going as well...

I just remembered that I have a bike rack from an old car I used to have. I can take two bikes if it fits, but I only have a small honda hybrid so my limit is three passengers...

I'm in. I want to take my bike tho, so if there's no rackspace I have no problem driving. I can take one other person, no bike tho.

Do I need to remove my brake beforehand?

No, you can also remove it at the track if you are fast. Of course if you need it professionally removed go to your LBS.

I can remove it myself, but I'm still unclear if it is allowed to ride w/brake at hellyer. Maybe u were being sarcastic? I don't know.

Remember to bring your helmet cause you can't ride without one.

If you're renting, remember to bring pedals. Also helps if someone brings a pedal wrench and some allen keys to adjust seat height etc.

The beginner sessions are quite long, 2 hrs plus, so bring some water and snacks for afterwards as theres nothing around Hellyer park.

Don't get to go down there again until mid-feb so am jealous.

Pencil me in. I'll probably rent since changing my chainring is a PITA.

Anyone know if they allow locktited freewheel hubs? (or should I just not ask about it)?

I'd try to get some east bay folks to go if they do and my new frame arrives first.

damn. sounds like fun. and now i finally have saturdays off!!! time to ride. So I'm down. I also have a vehicle, that can sit up to 4-5, and like 3 bikes (pathfinder with bike rack for 2).

question: does everyone ride clipless on the track? or can we rock the oldschool clips and pedals and tennis shoe action? or will that person suffer track embarassment?

FYI, I emailed Mark (one of the instructors) just to know exactly what I needed to have to make my bike legal:

The basic requirement is a race legal track bike. No bullhorn bars. No brakes. No aero bars. Your version of a track cog [locktite] is fine. It might be easier to use one of the rental bikes. We have about 20 of them and are getting more.

There were plenty of people with clips/pedals/straps and tennis/skate shoes when I went. (myself included)

Like I was worried about it before I actually went...and honestly there's nothing to worry about.

The vibe was totally cool.

Here's a roster so far with what I know of locations so we can plan carpooling or whatnot.
Anyone else plan on going just add your name to the list with your locale.

Perhaps we should call/email ahead so an instructor shows up.

If there's multiple cars going and room for me and my bike; I'd totally be down for this.

I'm in SF Mission.

New frame should arrive tomorrow. It's not a track frame, but it fits me. I need to find some drops, possibly a stem and probably a larger chainring. Or I can rent...

Do you guys think it would look terrible to put track drops on a fixed conversion?

I plan on driving myself, but I don't know how many people I can take. If I don't manage to find a bike rack and I DO decide to bring my bike, I'll only be able to fit one passenger in my car. Otherwise I could cram in up to 4 (plus a couple of bikes if I find a rack).

I am pretty sure I'm in. I'm gonna call the track this week and see if they have any small rentals. If they don't, I'll have to so some parts switching...
