Why do all these industrial design students build wooden bikes as their senior projects? Why not just build a real, functional bike?
This is how universities are educating young industrial design engineers and how we get things like Whirlpool Duet washers and Kitchenaid dishwashers that cost $900 and break every third Tuesday.
Industrial design students are taught, or permitted, to build jackass wooden "art" bikes instead of designing real, functional, durable machines that actually work. Everyone fawns over their conceptual industrial designs and then they all get pissed off when the transmission in their Ford Focus doesn't shift. Gee, maybe a $70,000 education in industrial design should have taught how to build a valve body instead of a non functional art bicycle, ya think?

If you're clothes- or dishwasher breaks a lot, or your Ford Focus doesn't shift, that's because of the engineers involved with those projects, not the designers: form = designers; function = engineers.

Says it's anodized. Does anyone besides me think it looks like spray paint?

There's a guy here in town who bought a Campy crankset from my shop and had them anodized black. They came out looking ****ty just like that.
I literally laughed out loud when he came back into the shop to show them to me.

lol. AFAIK you cant impart a matte finish by anodizing, could be wrong tho.
one of the pics showing the scratch looks like it reveals some white primer underneath
@Scrodzilla cant you buy factory black campy cranks now anyway?

The dude with the Campy cranks were definitely matte anodized. It felt rough and seemed like it would scratch off without too much effort. I told him he did a really good job making a nice crankset look like Origin8 crap.
I could be wrong but I think the only black Campy track cranks are sold by the MASH store and I'm pretty sure they had them anodized. I've never seen a black option in any of our Campy catalogs (or we'd stock them).

Not an engineer, but..... Part of it depends on the level of smoothness of the aluminum's surface. That's why some look rough and some look super brilliant. The shiniest ones start with the aluminum at a highly polished level.

The silver Super Record Pista crank and headset look almost out of place in the 2016 Campy TT-CX-Pista catalog, as if they were stuck in time. Everything else in the catalog is black but these two parts remain silver.

They don't picture anything other than silver Super Record Pista crank as an available part but have a picture of a Canyon track bike used in a world record attempt fitted with Ghbli wheels and black cranks. At first I thought the crank may have said Canyon on it but I blew it up (slowing down at work for the holidays and nothing better to do) and it is clearly says Campagnolo. See page 105 (8 of 22 in the PDF).

Black Campy cranks clearly exist. I won't be cashing out my 401k to get them though.

If you include road groups - Athena & Veloce are available in silver...
