Gabriel has three high-wheel bicycles, and he has ridden them hundreds of miles.
when youre wearing an ancient utility belt that affords you constant access to a pincushion, maybe you can realize why technology advanced from your precious victorian era textile manufacturing processes.

They are perfectly able to live the lifestyle without telling everyone about it and how glorious it is. They don't seem to have any interest in that particular approach.

Yes, she has a website dedicated to the experience... so? I don't see her claiming she shuns all modern technology. Anyone is free to ignore her website if they don't like it. She does explain it is an ongoing project to study the lifestyle as well, would be a bit silly not to share the findings, wouldn't it?
Frankly, I was amazed at the end of the article, where she points out the abuse they receive for how they choose to live. Sure, if I saw someone dressed like that, or swimming in a victorian era bathing suit, I'd be a bit baffled too. But why anyone would take offense, even to the point of harassing them about it, is completely beyond me. But reading your reply, I guess wanting people to conform (or at least be quiet about not conforming) is very important to some people...

Yeah, I don't see the issue. Just seems like two individuals role playing to the extreme. Of course they're going to see that society through a historical perspective aka rose-tinted lenses...but that could be said for any of the people that take reenactments/cosplay super serious. It's not like organizers at the Renaissance fair bring plague rats to run around or force everyone to use straw (or their hands) instead of toilet paper in their wooden latrines/trench. It's an idealized version of history.
They seem to be doing their own thing and enjoying it. I would rather see these types over the typical younger technology obsessed crowds that have their faces buried in cell phones 90% of the day...just walking down the sidewalk in major cities can be challenging since so many people have their faces engrossed in a screen/not looking at the world around them.
Yes, that couple is a bit extreme but they're not harming anyone. To each their own.
