I feel obligated to speak up - I own a Pure Fix Zulu, and love it. It's exactly what I wanted. That said, it's important to recognize what you want and what you don't want in a bike. I never expected it to be a Cinelli Mash/Fuji Track Pro/Insert Nice Track Frame Here.
I wanted a basic steel track bike for around $350 that looked distinctive, would take a beating, and would be fun. Check, check, and check. It's a little rough around the edges, and some of components could use an upgrade or two, and I had to true the wheels after receiving, but everything functions perfectly and it's stood up well over about 500 city street miles. I do my own maintenance, which maybe makes it more attractive to me - I don't have to worry about getting it to a shop if it needs something. On an entry-level internet bike, you can't count on everything being A+ out of the box.
They also have fantastic customer service - I've sent off a couple emails and they always reply with good information and a friendly tone. They also sent me some free swag because they made a small mistake in shipping my order. Bonus points there.
There are cheaper bikes out there, and bikes with better reps, but I'll vouch for the PureFix as a solid, basic fixed gear.

90% of the bikes and components that people own on this forum are maintained by the people who ride/own them. FG/SS maintenance isn't rocket science. Although chain tension seems to be. I wouldn't use that as a sales point though. It's not like everyone is riding bikes with WI or Vetoire splined hubs, which could throw some people if they've never worked on one.

hahaha. I hope not. I am surprised you knew the shop and owner right away. but yeah, I am really bummed that he picked those up. They have been selling like hotcakes though. They are super ****ty though. We have nice stuff as well though.
