Another canyon ride but I was engulfed by a giant group of middle aged rich guys  and it was so freaking hot up there I had to take a break under some cool shade, which there isn't much of, and I felt like **** for the thirty miles back home. Now pizza and beer because I feel bad.
|
Was planning on going for a ride this morning, but ended up sleeping in until 11:30, oops. Now getting all cleaned up and then heading off to a friend's wedding near Union Square.

I know, look at all those cars, pedestrians, dogs & other clueless riders around them. You really opened my eyes.

I'm not saying it's right or good for anyone's health/safety.
It you really want to split hairs here and compare riding without a helmet to other examples of stupid things people do on a daily basis, do a little research regarding the amount of literal poison in the vast majority of readily-available American food before enjoying your next meal. |

I try to eat organic, dairy free, gluten free and all that jazz, I guess we're all gonna die from something. I choose to have that death be by sharks with lasers attached to their heads. |
I guess it's different in Chicago, but among my friends the people who get scolded, chastised, and made fun of are the few who don't wear helmets. Most of my friends -- who, if you saw them you'd immediately judge as too-cool-for-school hipsters even though they are genuinely nice, creative, and awesome people -- wear them.
I wear mine about 90+% of the time, but there is the occasion when I'm going only a short distance on slow residential streets or paths, or other rare circumstances, when I don't. I actually hate that I get scolded like a little kid about it, because I am an adult who can make decisions to do things that are risky and it's my own damn business if I do. I mean hell, now I hear that helmets are required gear for downhill skiing and snowboarding and I sure as hell didn't wear a helmet for the 20 years of my life that those were regular activities. |
heh, still have my original Skid Lid and Bailen, but given that the majority of my cycling is slow / lonely commutes, i haven't worn a helmet regularly in years. that said, trailriding on the SSMTB? oh yes.... . i'm not renowned for good judgement..... :)

I'm not against wearing a helmet but people act like if you have a helmet on you are going to live through any crash, all it does is protect you from head injuries, it's not going to do much when you get right hooked and go under the car. |

Same with motorcycles, I would never ride my motorcycle without a helmet, I get nervous riding near people without them (not NY obviously). |
On a more positive note to not derail this thread any further:
Anyone in NYC want to go for a ride tomorrow, PM me. |
Rode 38 miles with my coworker with aboutt 3700 ft of climbing. Out and back so most of that in the first 19 miles. Ouch.

Today, I continue to learn about tubeless tires....popping beads at 120psi makes a very loud bang, more fun with the slime crap in the tire because it sprays all over you.
1 Ultegra tubeless wheelset wrapped in schwalbe ultremo's for sale! |
Today I went to a swap meet with not much intention to buy things...
Walked away with: https://sphotos-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/h...44905298_n.jpg Oops. |
not trying to stir the **** here but the only accident i ever was in on my bike was less than 500 feet from my home when a 62 year old man didnt stop at a stop sign, i was going to my gfs house thats .4 miles away.
chances of getting into an accident have nothing to do with how far or where you are or if you have a condom in your pocket or not |
Today I spotted a good deal on some KRK monitors. Moving back to school gave me a good excuse to get something smaller and nicer than my big pioneer towers.
Oh, and to be bike related - I wear a helmet when I ride ever since I had a head injury that should have been a lot worse. I was just on a normal ride back to my car and I rode over a crack at just the wrong angle. |

Nice, what ones you going with? I have the rockit 5's and they do a decent job, all things considered.

Nice! They're a great little speaker!

Today I took state champ in a match sprint tournament and a scratch race for cat 4/5. Got silver in a 500m TT.
Tomorrow is a points race and a 3km pursuit, both of which cater to my strengths. Six points leading in the omnium. Stoked. You guys finishing up track season? |
That kicks ass. Congrats.
|
Congrats.
Today 16 miles on the cruiser. |
