It's been a weird first year at college for me. Decided I'm going to transfer after sophomore year, and go somewhere that I actually enjoy going.

Also, got on the bike for the first time in about 2 months last night. I'm so out of shape, but I'm working on that.

Second ride on the road today since getting doored last Sun, right pinky (was dislocated) hurts a little over bumps...

Today I tried to focus on riding out of the "door zone", farther into the lane. It didn't seem to piss off drivers as much as I thought it would. Regardless, I'm going to be farther in the lane anyway to decrease my chances of getting doored again.

being doored seems like one of the worst ways to get "hit"

I don't have much of a choice regarding door zones along much of my commute because the lane structure is cramped. I take the lane where I can but usually I end up slowing down and aggressively scanning ahead for people still in parked cars. Quite possibly my biggest fear when on the bike.

Hmm should I get rear ended or do I want to get doored...

This is a dangerous hobby! Be careful folks.

In my experience thus far, riding in San Diego is a piece of cake compared to MA as far as dealing with drivers are concerned. Nobody in MA gives a single flying **** about anything when they're behind the wheel.

When I was vising my sister in NYC (brooklyn/manhattan) I saw plenty of cyclists out on the road.... To me it seems like it would be suicidal to ride out there!

We do have it pretty easy I suppose. Your neck of the woods is particularly bike-friendly.

ive been doored and tboned. dooring hurt a lot more than getting tboned, though the 64 year old man that hit me was going about 7 mph at the time so i kinda just rolled over the hood of his car and he tacoed my front wheel

dooring though. i was going maybe 12 mph and a woman opened a cab door and i caught the edge of it on my collarbone, i have no idea how i didnt break it but **** that killed.

oddly enough riding where i live in the burbs is way more dangerous than in manhattan. people in the city are used to it but here we dont "belong" and noone behind the wheel of a car gives a flying ****. i get muscled onto the curb all the time, yelled at, **** thrown at me. when i go to the city i just take the lane and people go around

This. I mainly ride downtown and notice the hostility is amped WAY up once I venture out of the relative 'safety' of the 'big city'. Once I transition from city traffic to truck traffic, I search for alternate routes.

I gas welded for the first time today. I think I really like this.

Also, it's summer out here again. wtf, mate. This has been the least wintery winter.

Can we start a welding thread? I ran some flux-core the other day to repair my stepfather's trailer. First time I have struck an arc in a couple months. Pretty soon I get to run my new TIG machine to weld some aluminum side cases for my motorcycle.

Ah well, this is just my second week in. I'm just glad I didn't break a regulator or cause an explosion, some of things I see others doing worry me a little.

Bike lanes in the city are the devil, I feel safer riding in the traffic with the crazy cabbies.
glad you're alright, getting doored always scares me.

Today I'm going to look at two road bikes that may actually fit me. I'm tired of feeling cramped on my current bike.

Yesterday I found out that have kidney stones. All I can do is pop painkillers like candy and wait it out.

On a bike-related note: today I found out that the motor in a Di2 front derailleur is strong enough to bend the cage if misadjusted.

https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/bik/4344898438.html has popped up on CL again and it takes everything I have not to go and buy it, I need to start being "responsible" with my money or something like that.

today I opened the box to my new bike trainer bought of ebay and found this
Should have spent the extra $80 and bought it locally. The seller better pay for shipping back to them.
