So what made you get a recumbent tandem, anyway?

I needed a new car, since mine was about to die.

Is it a hatchback ? Do the rear seats fold down flat for a long and large cargo area ? That's my main criteria in a car.

Today I overhauled several pedals with loose ball bearings. Wow, what a pain in the ass. Would it be so hard to design them for larger bearings?

I've done that before and it's something I never hope to do again. Unless it's on the single-sided Shimano road pedals, like the PD-1051.

It's not so much the bearing size that gets me it's that confounded cone/locknut situation. Never have looked into whether there was a special cone tool for pedals. I vaguely remember reading about grinding down a socket to make a pedal cone tool of some sort but...

Anyway, the single-sided Shimanos solved that problem, super easy cone/locknut adjustment on them.

Bought tickets to see Arcade Fire in KC. Not super stoked about the show, but the wife likes them. Plus, Kid Koala is opening and he's AMAZING.

SpeshulEd 03-18-14 01:41 PM

Dan Deacon will probably be opening too and he's also amazing. I really wish that tour was coming to Phoenix.

Rode around town all day, soaked up some sun in a light sweater at the cafe as it was a scorching and sunny 32 degrees here (upstate ny aka the land of frozen dreams)! Then rode to the grocery where I ordered a pound of steamed cod, then over to the gym, ate said cod and preceded to exercise for an hour, followed by the sauna and hot tub (my saviors in life). Rode home at a decent clip and just finished a relaxing dinner by the fire :)

Some older Shimano pedals and other nice loose ball pedals have slotted axles and room to fit a socket to turn the cone. Today I went ahead with overhauling a pair of Suntour Superbe pedals I got off a CL bike and was relieved to find cartridge bearings inside. Then I looked at some old Shimano pedals at the co-op and sure enough they have ball bearings larger than 1/16" and with slotted axles. sigh

Last night we bbq'd and had a skate sesh then today I saw a bunch of crusty chain commuters doing a bunch of passing on the right/jumping people at lights which means it's officially spring in Portland.

Shorts from here on out.

Yes sir! EAI hooked me up with some NOS C-Record Pista hubs (instead of the modern version I recently posted in the 'what did you buy' thread) and I couldn't be more stoked.

LesterOfPuppets 03-19-14 01:45 PM

Best hubs ever!

50voltphantom 03-19-14 03:08 PM

Those hubs are beautiful.
