And of course today I poured some out for the one and only Robin Williams who is slaying it in the great Jumanji up in the sky.

Today I went out for a dawn patrol ride at 6:05 and saw the nearly full moon hanging huge in the sky. There were people trying to sleep nearby so I chose not to howl at it but instead to try to capture it with the iPhone. It looks more French Impressionist playing with black and gray and gold than photographic, but I liked it.

The ride was a good one that took me through the local medical district, bisected a mill village and passed the Greenwood Packing Plant before taking me home with 10.3 miles and a better attitude toward life.

Today I woke up at 6am and I've been waiting at the DMV this entire time. 2 away from being called with my ticket class being called every half hour+ when I see a woman who came half an hour later with the same class but some odd 25 positions behind. I died from containing the laughter and satisfaction inside

I was just about to ask which one. Plus, last time I made an appointment and it went super fast. This was somewhere near Hillcrest, not sure exactly.
Anyways, depending on what you are there for, sometimes you have to wait forever.

Last week I accidentally discovered the secret. I went to the DMV to renew my DL. I pulled ticket number 78. They were serving number 35. The place was packed, nowhere to sit, nowhere to stand without rubbing elobows, AC not doing real well, 98 degrees outside, no shade, no benches. I said, (out loud) 'Yikes!" A guy sitting a foot away looked up at me and said, "No kidding, I've been here for well over an hour." I asked him what number he had and he answered, "Five". Hmmmm. I thought to myself, "The ticket is like someone holding my place in line, right?" So I did the math and bailed. What's the worst that could happen right? They call my number while I'm gone and I just go back the next day, right? Worth a try anyway. I went to the LBS to grab a needed water bottle cage. Went to the post office and bank. Did some other errands that were originally on my list for after the DMV. Went back to the DMV an hour and twenty minutes later. I walked in and the called # 76. Two mintes later I am being served, and four minutes later I am outta there. SCORE!

I haven't been inside the DMV for many years. I do everything online now.

Can you renew your DL online? Here they require a new pic every time. IIRC though, that was not required when I lived in California.

Yes, no new pic required. The pic on mine is like 20+ years old.

I like Arizona ids. Mine only expires when I turn 65 and if I need a change of address, it's only like twelve bucks to order it online.

The South Carolina DL system is horrible. There is an "Under 21" ID and an "Over 21" ID. I'm 30, but because our DL's are 15-year expiration, my license I got when I was 16 is good until I'm 31, which means I have an "Under 21" ID. It's formatted differently to make age ID easier at a glance because people in SC are apparently too lazy, or too stupid (probably both) to just simply read a damn date on a driver's license to determine if someone is old enough to buy beer and hand guns.

Which is why it's so frustrating for me... Because I get turned down for beer and hand guns and always have to challenge it. I always win on the beer argument because, as stated above, they're too lazy or too stupid (or both) to argue with me, but I did get turned away on a firearm purchase earlier this year.

The DMV here won't issue me an "Over 21" license until mine officially expires. I can buy all the replacements I want, but they won't change the format until after the expiry date.

Yeah online is definitely a big help. The only reason I went in is because I needed a new drivers license and I wanted a new picture because I get looks wheneveri buy alcohol or go to clubs and bars. I was 15 in my picture and I'm 25 now. Was time to have a new picture.

Yeah my Arizona Id has my picture from when I was sixteen and I'm almost thirty now. It also has a Portland address which means I can't go to busy bars where they care about id checks cause mine looks fake as hell.

Yup. There was a back up because the ticket system was down and they had to do it manually.

That would've been awesome, the next best thing, the appointment system had a backlog until late august.

We have that too. Don't even have to step foot in the office.
But I was getting my rx7 project plated and I ended up waiting a bit under 4 hours to turn in my pre-filled form.
Seeing how I waited, I [strike]could've[/strike] should've just filled it out then and there.

That sounds ********. California has different formats as well. Under 21 and your license is vertical instead of horizontal. If you have a vehicle license and you want to buy beer, I doubt they will just turn you down. They will at least look at your birth date and look to see your picture matches you. I have a hard time believing you can get turned down buying guns either, when your birth date is clearly stated. But I trust you if it happened. There are a lot of dumb asses in the world.

Plus, if you are over 21 and want the new format, just go to the DMV and say you lost your license and need a new one. They'll give you an updated one in the new format.

In SC, even if you lose it, they still give you the old one until it expires. I guess the monkeys at the DMV here haven't figured out how to switch the format. I have moved several times and lost a couple and each time they give me the same "Under 21" license regardless of which one I request. They say that it's "policy." Tax dollars hard at work...
