Bikes: 34 frames + 80 wheels

Today I watched in complete disbelief as some imbecile on a heavy zero turn riding mower completely tore up some freshly laid St. Augustine sod. We've been having continual heavy rains here for the past month, and the ground is extremely soft, making mowing impossible with anything but lightweight walk behind lawn mowers. Had this idiot just waited a couple of days for the wet weather to end this would not have happened.

I de-badged my wheels. Nothing else to do on a rainy day.

Today I tried to do a century and threw in the towel about halfway. Gonna wing it on the 200K brevet next weekend.

Bikes: En plus one

Today while on a ride with my son, we stopped side by side on at an intersection and he fell over on me.
He failed to clip out. Turns out a screw had fallen out of his cleat and it just spun instead of releasing. (new shoes and cleats)

He scraped his elbow on the tarmac and my pedal made a very long cut/scrape on his lower back.

in the process, he also broke a spoke on my rear wheel.

Seems like a lot of damage for a zero MPH crash.

His comment when we discovered the missing screw was "my only consolation is that it was my mechanical negligence that caused the incident and not my cycling incompetence."

Bikes: Bike Count: Rising.

Yesterday I took the Bianchi out for it's first run and scrounged up a better set of wheels for it.

Today I saw Jurassic Park on the big screen. It was excellent.

I have had cleat screws loosen up and fall out mid ride before. If it makes him feel any better tell him that it happens to bike mechanics too. Blue Loktite next time.

On the subject of unions, I am a union meat cutter in a super market, it wasn't hard to get in here at all, I just showed up on time everyday for six months and they said hey you want to make real money?

Bikes: Pinarello FP Due, Cesare track bike modified for the street.

Today I did something I always wanted to do. I was on my way home from a 60+ mile ride on the fixed gear. I was nearing home when I saw that the Souderton High School Girls Track team was holding a car wash. I figured what
the heck?

I asked if they wash bikes and they said sure. I took my cell
phone and wallet out of my jersey and got back on the bike. They
asked how they were going to wash the bike with me on it and I
said I wanted to be washed too. They took turns hosing me down
with the cool mist and it felt GREAT! They seemed to have a good
time too. I gave them $5 and rode off refreshed.

Ride Safe,

Joe

A little sandpaper and black appliance spraypaint will get you there.

Origin8 does 31.8 black quill, but +25° instead of -17°

How was it? I am so excited to see it, getting all nostalgic from when I saw the first one as a kid.

Today, I serviced all 6 bikes in our stable...no more creaky bottom bracket on the cannondale, got the fuji shifting right again, and the rest of the bikes got checkups and baths. It was a long day, but I overslept the 5am alarm to ride with the club, so I punished myself by doing some much needed maintenance.

Also, my neighbor insists I'm running a bike shop out of my backyard.

Just paying off a lot of old debt and rent has gone up more than I'd like so money is real tight. Hard to get your head in the game when you aren't even sure you're gonna make rent.

Still riding a lot and it's been more enjoyable since I'm not having to worry about saving my legs and all that.

Today I got a lot of outdoor yard chores done, as it's the first day in about a month with clear skies and no rain. I forgot that the big orange ball in the sky can burn you pretty good w/o sunscreen while wearing just cutoff shorts and a tank top. Ouchy.

I hope no one minds me using this forum as a place to clear my mind a bit. One of my friends was killed while out riding a couple of days ago. He just graduated. I haven't gotten on a bike in the past couple of days, and I'm kind of scared to--I know what he'd say to that, though.

"Just ****ing ride."

We'll all miss you, man
