This is how retired people run errands: drop off car for oil change, unload fixed gear and ride to breakfast, then hit the trails for a sweet morning ride and lastly, ride back to dealer with a smile on your face, warm glow in the legs, and a general great feeling of life.

For me, it's more like:

Wake up early, too early... Roll down to Fiesta Island knowing that this is going to suck, like really suck, put myself through some misery for an hour or so with some sort of masochistic interval protocol, then limp home. Shower up, eat, and head to work with a similar warm glow in the legs and a smile on my face, knowing that after the morning's workout, the rest is going to be easy :D.

Until I get hungry. I get really hangry, and sometimes I too busy and forget to eat a snack before lunch

I think that portion control for us Americans might be the biggest issue. I found some research that studied over 150 meals from restaurants and found the average meal to be 1700 calories. It is likely that most American men in their forties and fifties should be eating 1800-2000 calories per day. So, those numbers are rather problematic. In the end, each person needs to decide what is more important to them, enjoying their food or seeing food as energy for a healthy lifestyle.

Sometimes it is most effective to loosen the whole wheel a bit to workout radial truing, if it is proving to be problematic.

I am sorry to be critical, but I really do not care for those butt-plugs on your handlebars - you ought to get hooded levers & make one a dummy.

On the other hand...wouldn't mind seeing a close-up of your front hub - looks kind of interesting...

Really getting into fixed again, after not riding one for nearly a year. I starting to think I might be more into 1-2 high intensity rides, rather than longer, 40+ mile shindigs. And fixed is conducive to that, especially when the roads are straight and flat.

Front hub is a Campy G3 road hub. As for the butt plugs, they go back to 1984 when I had my first fixed gear. I guess that makes them 31 years old. :)

I do have a set of Shimano road levers. Is there a way to "fix" the dummy one so it doesn't rattle or move?

Here in the Midwest there is no such thing as portion control. If people aren't getting 10lbs of food for $2, they think they are getting ripped off. It's ridiculous.

In my twenties, even early thirties, I never had to think about food quantities. Then, everything changed!!! Now, I have to look at food as fuel and only eat what I need. But, to me, it is worth it!

Tonight I made this recipe that I found on the back of a Sprouts chicken broth package. Tomato/broth based stew with chicken, onions, garlic and zucchini. Served over couscous (buttered ofc) with a cilantro garnish. Yum!

It's spiced with cumin (my fav), salt, pepper and cinnamon, of all things. It's so good.
