Thanks, I use Kroil and it has had it applied for months with many miles of riding added. The two options left to try are dry ice and sodium hydroxide Sheldon has a good list.

The Mechanics thread contains some interesting solutions for this. You might check them out.

Dry Ice didn't work neither did CRC Freeze Off. I estimate the post is in 12".

foo: Oh hey, you're open. I need a chain.
me: Ok, is it a fixed gear bike?
foo: Of course. If I bring it in can you throw a new chain on?
me: Yeah, If I'm not already in the middle of something major when you come in, I can do it while you wait.
foo: Well what if you are in the middle of something?
me: I'll make you walk down the hill and buy me two slices of pizza from Luigi's.
foo: What?
me: Or a California burrito from Ray's.
foo: Huh? Wait...huh?
me: Are you over 21?
foo: No
me: Well, you can try to shoplift two 32oz bottles of High Life from Idaho Market but don't mention us if you get caught.
foo: Uh, alright?
me: What time are you coming in?
foo: Around noon, is that good?
me: We don't really take appointments but if you need a tooth pulled or something, there's a dentist around the corner.
foo: Man, I uh...haha...I mean...
me: See you later?
foo: Yeah, around noon. Thanks.
me: Yarrrrrrr!

I love my job.

Would be cool if you stream this stuff on your website. The ScrodCam.

Something I tried years ago that worked was to cut the seatpost just below the seat clamp and used a small sledge hammer with a few impacts to break it loose inside the seat tube. Once loose, I gripped the seatpost with a large channel lock pliers to work it out.

I wouldn't say it's plane ticket good, but MAYBE a taxi ride.

Today I got the wabi all townied up

SpeshulEd 09-24-15 10:25 PM

Yesterday I followed Bojac on Strava. So I can officially say that I kind of know Bojac.

Dannihilator 09-24-15 10:28 PM

Today I put in 20 miles.

TejanoTrackie 09-24-15 10:47 PM

Today I fixed another mystery flat tire (pinhole in the tube on the rim side) and lowered the gearing in my Motobecane Messenger utility fixed gear by 11gi from 67gi to 56gi. Now I can get up a short 22% grade hill with a 40 lb load in my saddlebags w/o having to dismount and walk. It's also a lot easier to get the bike rolling from a stop.

If the seatpost is alu or alloy, the frame is steel, & you have no expectation of saving the post - as a last resort Caustic Soda has never failed me...

Next step. After many attempts yesterday, I give up. This thing is really stuck. The post is so far down the tube, the hack saw blade is too short. I expected with DB tubing that I didn't need to go that far but you never really know where the transition is. Plus, the larger dia. area allows more corrosion to build up.

Drill hole through exposed seat post. Put rod through hole. Clamp rod to bench vise. Grab bike frame and twist.

and elongate the hole and put a bend in the rod!:) Did that. Used a 1/4" hole
Some have popped the seat stay off the lug leveraging the frame. Need to be careful about what you hold onto, head tube is best, and be gentle. Using the stays can bend them or help pop them off.

Huffandstuff 09-25-15 10:28 AM

I've melted a seat post out before with lye, was a fun science experiment. If you are super super careful I think you could do it without repainting it.

TenSpeedV2 09-25-15 10:52 AM

Today I bought a quality used wheelset for my SS MTB. Black Chris King hubs laced to Stans Arch EX hoops. Front needs a QR adapter kit (that can wait). Taking the bike and the wheel down to the shop because I need a spacer or two and the chainline needs to be setup properly. That rear hub, holy hell that is loud.

Guess 09-25-15 11:33 AM

chopped my wide risers down to a more useful shoulder width, they were fun, but I couldn't get past cars without a serious fear of clipping something on the way by. I guess they're useful for bombing mountain roads or something.

Did the trade thread in the marketplace get deleted?

Mumonkan 09-25-15 01:59 PM

it would appear so, no idea why or when that happened though

TenSpeedV2 09-25-15 02:14 PM

Damnit. Had to order a specific lock ring as these did not come with one. Also found out that it would be about $110 or so to convert the front wheel from thru axle to 9mm QR. Seller did knock some off since I drove to met him and he couldn't find the stuff. Looks like that will definitely have to wait.

Flatulentfox 09-25-15 03:12 PM

I might have the parts you need if you are interested. Lemme go see.

I've had good luck with the cheaper thru-axle to QR conversion sleeves for ~$20, like this: MTB Tools Mtn Bike 15mm thru Axle to Standard 5mm Quick Release Wheel Adapter | eBay -- been using this exact one to run a newer thru-axle wheel on an older QR fork on my MTB for years with no issues.

That is what I am looking for however I am not sure that it will work with Chris King hubs.
