good luck and have fun @50voltphantom.

...

Also, I'm looking forward to this time change, spending the first 45min of my rides in the dark is no fun.

Thanks!

I rode to work this morning and after putting on what feels like a thousand pieces of gear (it's cold!) to go ride in traffic, in the dark, I'm asking myself, "Is this worth it?"

Of course, I don't have plans to race or anything, so I guess that's ok. However, training and boosting my numbers is kind of fun at the moment, so we'll see how that goes.

im scared to do mine this winter, not because it hurts, but because joe friel says i should have an ftp of 310 and i know i dont have that much power

Yeah, I thought I was better than I was. I ended up at 223w, with my weight that puts me around 2.5kg/w which puts me around the untrained/cat5 ranking. :( Oh well, start low and get better I guess.

Eh, numbers are numbers. If you enjoy riding bikes that's all that matters.

Usually 6:30 or 7:00. This morning I put in a big one before work so I was out the door by 6.

Yes, it is. For me, cycling is largely about working out, so monitoring my fatigue, gains and progress makes me feel great.

I’m at 155lbs (~70kg) and 285w right now, in a relatively untrained state. On seasons where I don’t have any time off due to illness or injury, I hit 150lbs and 300-310w by mid season. That’s mid field at best for a cat3 in SoCal, but my real strength is my sprint and anaerobic recovery.

As a last note, there’s more to winning a bike race or just having fun cycling than being He-Man strong. It’s all relative, and again I agree that just getting stronger feels great.

SpeshulEd 10-27-15 03:43 PM

Yeah, I mean riding is fun, that's why I do it, but it's super cool to get faster and stronger too. When the faster and stronger starts to get boring, I'll go back to JRA.

Happens to me every year, usually in late summer :)

Today I smoked 16lbs of pork over 9 hours.. Needless to say, I am uncomfortably full right now but it was well worth it.. Go Warriors!

Hmm, not showing up on the site, weird. Their FB page is slammed with comments about a crashing server, perhaps they took them down.

50voltphantom 10-28-15 12:02 PM

I emailed Phil Wood asking if their little "Phil Equipped" stickers are still available. They responded "We have a few left, give me your address and I'll send you some."

Never be afraid to ask. :thumb:

Ugh, it appears I'm not part of The Movement...apparently, buying stuff from them doesn't automatically add you.

i removed myself from their email blast, i got their messages at 4 am on the dot and it scared the **** out of me every single time, you can set your watch to it.

i figured the wonderful world of bike media would fill me in when stuff like this was going down - did not dissapoint.

SpeshulEd 10-28-15 04:28 PM

They sent me an email finally with the details. I grabbed one of the Portland Wave kits...it's that time of year where I avoid the darker kits since I'm riding in the dark half the time.

$$$$

Hmm... create your own shortage. That's some marketing strategy they got there.

I don't like the styles but give them props for including a zippered pocket. Apparently a zippered pocket is beyond the ability of most manufacturers.

Muffin Man 10-28-15 07:05 PM

I'm debating getting the portland kit

Might do it

Where do you see information about a zippered pocket? My current Black Sheep kit doesn't have one, unless it's hidden somewhere on the inside.
It's pretty standard for kits to be limited time only, just about every company that does runs every couple of months does this.

I can say that my current Black Sheep kit is my favorite out of all the ones I own (mostly Twin Six, Heavy Pedal...with a few others mixed in). The chamois is top notch. Of course, I can't compare that to Rapha or any of the other high end stuff, so what do I know. I also find the Twin Six, Heavy Pedal stuff to be just fine for my riding, but it's nice to have a couple of nice kits in the closet for those long days or when you're feeling fancy. The jersey is super stretchy though, when I ride without a saddle bag and throw everything in the back pockets, it hangs a bit low. I also sized up because I was worried about size, this time I went with my normal size, so we'll see how that goes.

Muffin Man 10-29-15 12:35 AM

Power pedals are up for sale now, need to fund new project. !!!!!!

seau grateau 10-29-15 05:08 AM

Today I had to use a lever to mount tires for the first time in years. Michelin Pro3 Race -- these things are tight.

50voltphantom 10-29-15 07:33 AM

I re-cx-ified my Steamroller. Riding this thing on an actual cross course should be interesting.

Maybe my head is in the sand but I've used Assos since 2001 and have been able to buy the same jersey for at least a couple of years. Sold out in a day brings new meaning to the word "limited" IMO. It's not really a big deal to me though because I don't like the style. To each his own and I do respect that it isn't the same thing everyone else is wearing. Never knew of these guys nor of Heavy Pedal until I came to this forum.

Saw this on their essentials line. I had a good chunk of change and all my ID and car key fall out of a jersey pocket once and really appreciate a zippered pocket like this.

Hmm, tempting but I really don't need them. Still tempting though, haha.

Hmm, mine doesn't seem to have the pocket, that must be just for their "essential" collection, unless it's a new feature. Guess I'll find out shortly.

Yeah, I think they mostly do the limited stuff to drum up attention for their normal gear, however, it seems more and more people are doing one off kits in limited runs. I've actually started following wtfkits on instagram just so I stay on top of all the random ones. It can be hard to keep up.
