Not cantilever mounts, but "U" brakes. There was a short-lived fashion in the late 80s of mounting them under the chainstays:

Followed Mumonkan and some dudes who were off to bikepack. I am still recovering from knee surgery so I couldn't go as far as I wanted. Still did 26 miles, many of which were on terrible terrain (especially for a cross bike).

I'm guessing they were thinking shouldering the bike would be easier. A fair amount of people were into shouldering MTBs back then. You could probably shoulder OK with a low cage on the seattube, but then you run into front derailleur clamp problems.

I wish the guys who designed my olde Yokota had thought of shouldering. The put cable stops under the top tube right in there where they'd do the most harm to your shoulder. Living on the second floor and that being my errand bike, I found that out right away.

Yep, a lotta U-brakes back in the late '80s.

That MB-2 came with a Suntour rollercam in back, though.

Ditched on going to Mt. Diablo yesterday because none of put group was feeling it at all. Total of 116miles and 12,838 ft elevation gain over the 3 days I did ride. Notbad.jpg

AristoNYC Sounds like your recovery is coming along well. Did you take the fantom? I think I spy it with the red bar tape.

Also great pic of the river with Michael.

Yeah, its going well so far. The pain I was having pre-surgery is gone, now I just need to get my strength and flexibility back.
Yep, I took the Fantom Cross and tried to keep up with the fatties. I had 40c on the cross and it held up quite well.

So I've been teasing a build lately, but I've changed my mind and decided to sell because I felt like this isn't worth putting so much money into.

I'm a long legged boy, tall HTs are my friend.

I also wanted something that had a 1cm taller HT than my caad9 race bike

Today I'm really liking my new Morvelo thermal jersey. Might just wear it to bed tonight.

so much climb. so much hike a bike. so much lost. so much cold. so much awesome. even my glutes hurt, and i have a numb spot on one of my big toes still.
