A natural gas explosion took out 3-4 businesses on Greenwood Ave in Seattle today. I guess a bicycle shop (Family Cyclery) got hit pretty hard too.
If you're familiar with Seattle, here is the spot....

Figure I would post this for people that might have lived in Seattle at one time or spent a lot of time there.

I had the pleasure of visiting Mexico city a few years ago. What a fascinating place. Can't wait to go back.
Do you cycle in the city? Most people I talked to were apprehensive about being on the streets on a bike.

Fire at work this morning in one of the fume hoods. Nobody injured, thankfully, but we did have to evacuate all 8 lab and office suites in our building until the fire dept. cleared us to return. Pretty crazy, I've been here for nearly 5 yrs and never witnessed anything like it.

Yep, first time I heard of them was a sign on a Singapore bus...had a picture of the fruit, cartoonist scent vapors, and a warning not to eat on the bus.
Guess it tastes decent but smells like rotting garbage. I ate everything in SE Asia except for durian and balut in Philippines.

BTW...anyone keeping up with the whole motorizing bike fiasco in women's under 23 World Champs? I don't keep up with pro racing but it's hilarious.
Quick summary...it's a bit complicated/might be wrong on fully understanding it.
-Femke van den Driessche (national cyclo-cross champ in 2011, MTB champ in 2013, European Cyclo-cross Championships in the women's under-23) gets caught with a motor assisted bicycle in her pits.
-She failed to finish race due to mechanical problems - electrical cables observed hanging from bike during a pit stop equipment check
-UCI has device to detect radio frequencies. Her pit bike had a motor in the seat tube giving her 150w of extra power. Video of motor system https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w45tga8VbiQ
-She denied spare bike was hers and instead her friends. Friend came forward to say she sold him the bike last year and he "accidentally" left it near the pits. The mechanics "didn't realize" it wasn't her bike and had it prepped for the race. Same exact bike/setup as hers.
-Could face ban/huge fine.
The motor has an on/off switch...you can engage it when needed (like for climbing).
Here is the best part. Watch her climb. Notice how the other riders are swaying/standing, etc.. She's sitting almost still like on a sunday stroll...

Watch her engage the motor in this video. You have to stop pedaling and wait for the motor to engage. It's obvious here and you can see her cadence/body totally change.

I'm sure this is old news to most but I just find it insane...the more I read, the more I find it fascinating.

On my way to school today while riding with a friend I saw a friend's bike which had been stolen last fall. I hit him up on facebook and called the police and we got it back

Currently there is a bicycle renaissance going on in Mexico city, with luminous signs asking motorists to be respectful of cyclists. They even have a "City Bike" program that seems to be pretty popular. The bikes have a Shimano hub dynamo with a roller brake in the front and IGH in the rear. A bit odd looking but I guess they need to cater to users who might be on the lower end of the height spectrum.
