Today I was able to salvage a hackjob'd set of miche pistards for a friend with 2 pens and a set of schrader to presta converters.
He got the set for $50 after some fixie foo DIY drilled the inner wall with bit 1 size too big and the outer with one size too small to run schrader tubes from wally world I'm assuming.

This just makes me upset. I won't dwell on it for too long because it's friday night and beer, but still, what the hell are people thinking?

when i was a kid my cousin was sleeping over and he was sleeping on the top bunk. i had just returned from vacation and had an ear infection (first and only time for me, god ear infections are awful)
middle of the night my cousin falls out of the top bunk and his elbow smashes directly into my infected ear, i screamed like someone was sawing off my leg with a grapefruit spoon
i know that feel.

Definitely a caveat emptor scenario.
He checked everything out, even going as far as bringing a chainwhip and lockring pliers to see if the rear was stripped. Everything except for the valve holes under the now debunked assumption that nobody will tamper with that.
They spun very true too.
He only realized something was wrong when he inserted a presta valve stem and there was all this play. He actually tried to inflate it this way only for the valve stem on his tube to be torn when it was pressed through the opening by the pressure.

I am curious about this fix. I am assuming you used the "schrader to presta converters" to reduce the size of the hole in the rim from schrader to the smaller presta. What were the pens used for? As a shim for the oversized hole in the inner rim wall?

I ended up using a set of wheels mfg presta valve savers and the upper polycarbonate bodys of 2 uni-ball signo 207 pens.
Surprisingly, the portion of the pen body I took, the part right beneath the clicker press part, conformed to the aero section perfectly. And the converter fit the inside diameter of the pen snugly.

Great pens courtesy of work.

Some Nitto Rando bars / nitto stem popped up on CL for $30 -- couldnt resist. I have durace bar end shifters / FD+RD coming my way so I can't think of a better setup to try out on the 650c bike
barends are cool for long distance bikes, they force you to change your grip so you avoid some fatigue

Put the new quarq arms on, and Holy moly the difference from 170mm arms to 165mm arms is very very tangible. As soon as i got on the bike I felt it was different, and I need to get used to this setup now.
Also put wider bars on, and stripped my shifter clamp bolt in the process so I'm just gonna go die now.

whatever the torque spec they told me to use is, was way too much. or their bolts are ****.

Just kidding I just needed to use a longer t25. Bolt still works. Less metal in there now so its even lighter!

Going riding with a couple of buddies, one of which is a shop owner. He is trying out E-version of the Stumpy and I will be on my SS. I am getting too old for this *^!|
But, I will take a turn on that monster!
