It's an apples to apples comparison. That's why TimothyH's comment makes no sense. I'm not comparing huge bulk pricing of one brand to individual servings pricing of another brand. Equal volumes, straight shootout.

Well, it is Japanese, so it's kinda like a Kobe avocado. They shade them, massage them, and feed them by hand. I think they consider it inappropriate to use them for making condiments. It's pretty much a sashimi only thing.

Today I learned a few random things after yesterday.

1. Don't always trust the forecast.
2. Riding in 40° and pouring rain absolutely sucks.
3. Chrome Truk shoes are not that great even though I thought they were great when I first got them.
4. Most drivers are pretty courteous, especially when they see someone riding in the rain. There will always and I mean always, be that one impatient a-hole that no matter what is going on, you are slowing them down and they absolutely at any cost must get in front of you regardless of the conditions and their proximity to a stoplight or stop sign and will have very little regard for your life.
5. Riding home in damp clothing and socks and soaking wet shoes in 33° windy temps mixed with light snow really sucks.
6. Continental Gatorskin tires are great, if the pavement is completely dry and it is warm out. They suck pretty much at all other times.
7. Regardless of what the opinion on them is, I love riding a bike with an Aerospoke wheel up front. They are admittedly heavy, outdated, outplayed, overdone, what have you. The ride is much different than the American Classic 420's that I normally have on there. Hard to explain, but I enjoy it. Will probably get grief over but honestly don't care. Different strokes for different folks.
8. Riding a track bike on the street is and will always be fun for me.
9. As much as I hate how having a front brake looks on a fixed gear, I am glad that I have one just in case.
10. The more I ride in cycling specific stuff like bibs and jerseys, the harder it is to ride in a t shirt and jeans/cargo shorts or whatever.
11. I am glad that I finally found a helmet that allows me to wear a cycling cap underneath that looks good. Now I understand why people wear them.
12. Cold weather gloves that are advertised as such may work for some, but for someone with Reynaud's, they are a joke.
13. Messenger bags are great until you need to haul a bunch of stuff. Then you quickly see their limitations.

Yesterday started out really nicely. Quick 5 mile ride to a dentist appointment at 9 am and it was sunny and low 40's. 2 mile blast back to the bike shop to work at 10 until 2:30. Beautiful and now upper 40's and still sunny. At 1 pm, the rain started. No worries, it will quickly pass according to the radar. At 2:30 I left to head to the hospital to work at 3 pm. It had not stopped, in fact, it had picked up into a steady rain. Temps had dropped back to 40°. Could have taken the bus I guess, but then my bike would have been left at the shop and I would have had to ask a co-worker for a ride home which I despise doing. The bus here stops running at 11 pm for some reason.

The ride to work is only about 3.4 miles or so. In that cold rain and wind it felt like 100. Once that was over, the shivering started at work and lasted for almost an hour until I warmed up. It stopped raining around 6 pm or so and was mostly dry when I went home. 33° and windy still which normally is not that bad, if you are dry. My clothes had not dried, and my shoes were nowhere near dry. While riding home, it started to lightly snow. Just made sure that my speaker was connected, had Spotify going from my phone, and shut my brain off to make it home. 7.5 miles home and the last 2 were on a slightly wet MUP that had me concerned for light ice. Ground temps were probably too high, but the wind and the fact that they were still wet from the rain had me looking everywhere for signs of ice.

So, today I learned that even through all of that, I still love to ride my bike.

Went out for 23 miles today, saw a vulture in the neighborhood feasting on some roadkill which was kinda cool. It's also 93 degrees F outside, which is very not cool.

I was up early this morning for 50 hilly miles b4 work. By the time I was done (~9:00) it was hot, dry and with the wind blowing onshore. Santa Anas, man.

That didn't last very long at all. Bummer.

We're having some wacky weather in SoCal, recording breaking temps all around the region today and tomorrow. I'm very much not into it.

You can say that again. It's finally been cooling down the last few weeks, and BAM! Heat wave! Just like that one in late October. WTF

I'm probably moving next year. Can't take another endless summer, and LA is getting way too expensive. I grew up on the East coast and I'd rather have almost any kind of weather besides heat.

The same could be said for a lot of Chrome's product.

Word on the street is their long-term primary apparel designer and bag designer (who designed everything besides their classic messenger bags) left the company recently when they made the move to PDX.
Definitely worth keeping an eye on them considering they now have previous president of Rapha at the helm.

You could come here and enjoy the wonderful weather and upcoming winter. You think that you don't ride much now due to the weather? You should be here in January and February, when the day time temperature doesn't break double digits. The sun will come out and start to melt the snow that is packed onto every road/cycling surface and almost instantly freeze covering it in sheer ice. If you do manage to find pavement that is not slippery, you will be dealing with negative wind chill temperatures. Exposed skin will freeze within minutes. Don't bother bringing a water bottle with you as it will freeze within 15 minutes or so. One of my commutes home at 11:30 at night was at 0° F and -18° F with the wind chill. If you get a flat, you are screwed. That is winter here. On the flip side, we often see mid 90's in the summer with a lot of humidity, like a swamp in Louisiana in July kind of humid. The air is so thick that it is wet. 3 minutes into a ride and you are soaking wet.

That heat is a bear, don't get me wrong, I know it is hot where you are. But you come out here and experience this for this winter, and I think that you will have a whole different outlook on your endless summer.

I'm not moving to Hoth, so I don't really care.

And it may as well be Hoth with those temps. That endless summer? At least you won't die if you are outside for an hour. At least your car will start. I don't think that you fully understand how cold that is.

I grew up where you are and I'd love to go back to the endless summer. This four season **** is overrated. And this frozen white **** sucks the life out of me.

80+ and DRY Santa Anas blowing on Thanksgiving day. Sunny and 70 on Christmas morning. **** yes I'll take that all year long.

I prefer a couple of months of bitter cold to a couple of months of 110-ish.

I just prayed that it wouldn't warm up too close to freezing on my days off so the two-track stayed firm enough to ride.
