Took the Aventon Diamond for it's inaugural ride today after getting all the components swapped over last night. Coming from a heavy and cheap china frame, this thing rides like a dream!

Today I completed about 85% of my "project" bike. All I know is that this thing will be an absolute riot to ride. Pics to come tomorrow.

Only thing I'd change are the handlebars. |

Thanks! I will probably change to pursuit drops soon.
Thanks. Not sure what #tukt means though. lol #tukt means that your chain is as short as possible so that your wheel is slammed up against thatnice aero cutout in the frame where your tire fits. So, pop a few links out and you'll be more #tukt. |

Went out for a fixed ride around to run some errands and get coffee. Need new handlebars, think I might go for Zipp SL-88 like I have on my road bike if I can find a good deal in the right width.

$57.77 for 44's at Ribble right now. 40 and 42 are $62.05. I think these are the "traditional" AKA ergo bar.Walmart.com has ones with the round bend for $68 right now.

Nice! Make sense now. lol. Will do! I was going for that, and removed 2 links from the length the chain was on the old frame, but should be able to remove 2 more and squeeze it closer. Thanks jonpear6
Two links moves the axle a full inch. Got that much room in the dropout? |

Nope. Well, yes in the drop out (it slammed it tho) but not enough room from the wheel to the seat tube. It jammed it to close and caused the wheel to rub. So, looks like I'll have #gap until I switch up something in the drive train. This bike is much faster than my other and I am getting close to spinning out with 48/17, so thinking of going to 50/17 and that might fix both. :thumb:
I would think that swapping the cog out to a 16 rather than the chainring to a 50 would be cheaper, and allow for you to run the chain a touch shorter. Just a thought. |

You're talking about changing things that will have a material impact on the way your bike rides in order to accomplish the least important cosmetic thing ever. And in fact, getting your wheel "tukt" is likely going to make removing it a major pain in the ass.

It might get you a couple tenths of a second worth of aero advantage in a time trial, but really it's cosmetic. Main reason for the cutout is that the frame has a somewhat aero-shaped seat tube and it's necessary in order to fit the wheel in the frame without having awkwardly long chain stays.

Thanks for the info man, I appreciate it. |
Went out for 37 miles today, went pretty hard on this one segment (8.6 miles mostly uphill) at the beginning of my ride. Got the PR and 9th on the leaderboard. Ate a banana at the top, as ya do.

Swapped for drop bars and wrapped them in new fi'zi:k tape. Way more comfy and versatile.

Yeah, I was thinking of using a sharpie to get rid of those orange accent lines. Think it'll work?:twitchy:
No to the Sharpie. |

Although I am usually a big proponent of contrast, I think a black chain would make this bike look classier and meaner at the same time.
No to the Sharpie. |
Another perfect Saturday: A hot lap at Fiesta island followed by the 'Chilis" race ride, 2 hrs total with lots of intensity. Currently, eating, showering and packing the car for a mountain bike camping trip weekend at Mount Laguna. Woohoo!
