Pricing on SE Lager?

Hey, I test rode this bike at a local shop and liked it, however they're selling it for $450, and I came upon this site bikecraze who have it on sale for $270..
It's the 2014 version, I don't understand why the black color is $270 and the red is different price, $370. Also the 2013 version seems to cost also more..

Anyone know the reason behind this?

I have a red one, I got it from a bike shop that sells it for about 425. I traded something for it.
My bet is they have an overstock on the black ones and maybe they dont sell as well as the red one. The place I got it from would of got me a black or a red one. I liked them both and just had to pick one so picked the red one. For 270 I would scoop up the black one.

I love the bike, I have 2 fixies a Pure Fix and the Lager , the Lager is more comfortable for some reason.

The LBS price is too high. The MSRP on that bike is only $439, and those bikes are heavily discounted because they are overpriced. The price on the bikecraze site is ok, but nothing special, and does not include assembly, which adds another $25. Also, delivery costs are not included, so unless you pick it up locally you'll pay a lot more. I have an SE Draft, and it's a heavy POS.

If you look at the reviews of the LAger everyone loves it. It is a perfect commuter, has 2 brakes, a chainguard and Thick Slick tires. I dont know what you guys expect for 2 to 300 bucks. It is sold as a commuter. I guess if you have 10 grand in your pocket you could save about 8 pounds in weight and buy a Pinarello. My guess is for most of you it would be cheaper and more of need to take 10 or more pounds off your keister.

Nonsense. I paid 300 bucks for a Motobecane Messenger that weighs 4 pounds less than an SE Lager.

The price has always been $300 on that bike and they've sold a lot of them to satisfied customers like myself. Like I said, I do also own an SE draft and it's a heavy overpriced POS.

I hope OP won't mind a bit of a thread hijack, but I do not like starting new threads & it may offer another option to him?/her? after all.

I am usually not very interested in these "What low-end bike should I buy" discussions that inevitably lead to someone pushing Kilos...but weirdly enough some guy bought my "mini-fixie" everyday rider out from under me on the train Monday. After spending the past couple days using my good bike to commute & watching it getting beat-up, I spent last nite searching the interwebz for a cheap replacement "trains & racks" bike that I don't hate.

I was ready to go with Motobecane Messenger but there are only a few sizes, none that fits me. Then I turned my attention to Motobecane Track for even a few bucks less. Its available in only 1 size, but it can work for me.

Before I could pull the trigger on that bike, my innate distaste for Bikesdirect got the better of me. So I spent this AM hitting a couple bike shops. Purefix, low-end SEs, & the local Performance's Scattante were pretty much it for fixed bikes near me unless I wanted to pay up, which I don't.

I've just been using the google again & ran across...Eighth Inch. Had not thought of, nor heard anything about them in quite a while. They have two 4130 CroMo completes built with their proprietary parts, that I don't mind so much. In fact I actually kind of like the Raw

Lo-Fi - $200

Scrambler Complete - $300

I have spare bits - saddles, bars, levers, etc, on hand so those stock parts are not a deal breaker for me. Do I remember correctly that a couple members here have/had Eighth Inch bikes? You guys still around? Does anybody else here care to comment for my or Gabriel47's edification?

The Lager is sold as a commuter, if you are commuting I am not sure that the lightest bike makes the better commuter. Lager has Thick Slicks, 2 brakes, chainguard, bull horns, with commuting in mind
