Help with a colour
So not assuming anyone is some kind of colour pro, I still want to ask if anybody knows of a purple that would look black in cloudy weather for example and purple in the sun. What I mean is that it's extremely dark but not so dark that it appears black all the time. And if not, then is there a certain type of finish that give off that effect like a pearlescent finish or anything of the sort? I just really want that effect on my wire spokes for the fixie I'm building. Thanks for your help in advance! Sorry if I'm not posting in the right place, I'm new here...

liamphilip, many people here are going to ask you lots of very hard questions about why you need this color and why you aren't just out riding your bike. Just warning you.
My recommendation to you is to find a good local anodizing/powdercoating shop and ask them about metal finishes that look different colors in different lights, ask to see some of their past work, and then if you feel like they can give you what you want go for it.
Also warning you: probably not gonna be cheap. A friend of mine had some wheels for his car anodized to look different colors in different lighting and it was a few thousand doll hairs for all 4.

Wait, OP works at Starbucks in Canuckistan and wants to spend money painting spokes on a fixie build. Man, that Starbucks coffee must be a seriously powerful drug.

Ya, talk to a local painter OP. It'll be at least $150 for a good paint job on frame and fork. I'd guess they'd use a midnight purple color base with a ghost pearl or something along those lines, I'm not a painter though. Just show a local painter a pic like this and they'll know what to do and should be able to give you a quick quote:

back in the import racing days. this triple tone purple was all the rage. lighting would determine the color.

this is all i could think of aside from the original tile in my bathroom (1920s apt). which is a deep deep purple that appears black under most lighting.
