Exploring Greensboro by bike?

[Also posted to the Commuter forum]
How bike-friendly is Greensboro NC?

(I do near-daily commuting in Durham, and do not ride a mountain bike.)

I may be in Greensboro for a couple of days in October while my wife is at a conference at Wesley Long Community Hospital. Might spend the daytime exploring the city beginning from there. Was thinking of heading downtown; I don't really know the city very well.

Any roads to avoid? Any tips? Any place you'd want to explore were you in my position?

Generally we're a pretty cycle-friendly town, at least in my experiences. Downtown is fun and easy to navigate by bicycle. There's also a short greenway very close to the hospital as well as the arboretum which is worth riding through. Some roads like Spring Garden St. offer bike lanes, but this isn't very common. Although small, you can also explore several college campuses all within a few miles of each other; UNCG, Greensboro College, A&T.
