So the question is: do I used the DA wheels on the new bike, or use my Bontrager Race X Lites? Which are the better wheels?

depending on your weight i would pick the wheels with the higher spoke count and better hubs....probably the DA wheels. wheel flex is a speed killer.

Bontrager Race X Lite Aero - 14/16 spokes, DT Swiss hubs, 30mm aero rim, 1,710g
Shimano DA 7801 - 16/20 spokes, 24mm aero rim, 1,607g
I'm on the fat side of 185 right now...working my way down to 170 by year's end. 165 in 2008, and I think that's going to be my fighting weight from now on.
Funny thing is, with the Bontragers, I hear pinging coming from the spokes on climbs...I've never had them trued, and got them new in September, I think. Maybe they need retensioning?

Decided it was time to go compact:

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5122
Performance had it on sale, it was double points weekend, and I had some points I could cash in to boot. Nothing fancy, but since my Soloist has the standard FSA Gossamer w/ Mega-EXO crank, I'm hoping the swap will be really simple.
Now I need to get off my ass and get new bars and stem.

So I got the Brooks in the mail today (gee, USPS is freakin' fast), and it says Brooks Professional on the side, which leads me to believe it's a Professional. But it has about 1/2" diameter rivets, like a Team Professional, and the box says Team Professional. Oh well. If I keep it, I'll put it under the knife anyway.
It's brand new. Maybe one coat of something other than Proofhide, and it doesn't even look like it was mounted on a seatpost. The wings are still stiff, and there's no butt dimples.

I just followed the crowd
But I think it is to eliminate those side wings...for comfort = no rubbing and looks = it looks better this way!
And Fixer told me too!!

Just picked up a new Giro Pneumo helmet from the LBS. White with some silver decor. Of the ones I've tried, none of the Bell's fit my head well, only 1 model from Specialized fits ok, and only 1 from Giro; kind of weird. Since I had the same Spec last time, thought I'll try something new.

I guess each company uses different head types for different helmet models. My last one (Spec Aurora) is a perfect fit for me. When I tried their Air-something, I get pressure on both sides. On the Bell Sweeps XC/R that I've tried, the sides fit but there's a large gap between the top of my head and the helmet.

Did you file those horns down, George?
