OK answer to the photo pop quiz of last week:

(1) A stink horn - a common fungus fround among leaf litter

(2) An Oak Gall or Oak Apple. The reaction to the sting of a small wasp (who is laying an egg) by Coastal Live Oak. The baby wasp grows up inside, eats the gall meat and then as an adult, crawls out.

(3) Flowers of the "Lord's Candle" or Yucca plant.

(4) The bud of a Gypsum Weed flower. The buds are just beautful!!!

Here's 3 more for this week.... if you can name where the photo was taken - bonus points!

My 17 year old niece is out visiting from North Carolina. We of course went to Disneyland and California Adventure. DLand on Tuesday was very cold and very wet. We luckily had better weather at Ca Adv yesterday. I have a pass and go quite often however I hit a couple of things I never saw before - if you haven't done Crush's Wave in Ca Adv, make sure you do. Still don't know how they do it and frankly don't want to know... it was totally rad dude!!!

Also for those with little girls - have lunch at Ariel's Grotto - it's expensive but well worth the visiting with all the Dland princesses (Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Areil and Belle).

DLand - the sun came out for 3 minutes all day...

We got a beautiful sky at Ca Adv. It started out hot but the wind came in and cooled things off.

My beauitiful niece hoping to get "discovered" in Hollywood... if she looks big it's because she's really tall.

Here's Lauren with Belle at Ariel's Grotto - lunch went on the water watching all the happening in Ca Adv. Well worth the $20 a plate lunch.

Nice pics, Pam. I remember my first visit to CA (but it was No Cal, so not as glitzy). I hope you had a great time with her. She's wearing a livestrong band - is it just for the cause or she a cyclist as well? Have you rubbed off on her already? :)

Pamestique 03-23-07 06:33 PM

Actually she wears it for me when I got cancer... Do you know she has never been on a bike??? She was only here for really 3 days so I didn't have time to teach her the ins and outs of riding. She's coming back in the summer and I told her she's gonna learn no matter what. Her senior trip next year is a bicycling tour around Martha's Vineyard. She's almost cancelled a couple of times because she doesn't know how to ride. She's very althetic - and should learn easily (I Hope!).

merider1 03-23-07 06:36 PM

Gosh, Pam, I'm sorry. I didn't even think that and I should have! :o Well, she'll have a good teacher and a year is plenty of time for her to fall in love with the sport. :)

I would be worried about that TV is it was me........

Hi dog hair,

Nice assortment of shots. Are you going to the LBGP this year? I'll just be watching on TV since the Mulholland Challenge is on Saturday of race weekend. Here's a shot of Graham Rahal from Friday Atlantic practice last year (corner leading onto back straight):

BTW, how did you manage to take a shot while riding behind some pros who were going 30 MPH? ;)

Cleave 03-24-07 04:41 PM

Hi Pam,

Nice shots of Disneyland and CA Adventure and your niece. Looks like a very nice time. :)

I presume that you are a Disney fan (given your annual pass). Have you ever been to Disney World? I was at a conference a few weeks ago in a Disney World resort. The place is pretty amazing. I only got to go to EPCOT and Downtown Disney but both were pretty impressive.

i do plan on going to long beach, but probably only the first two days to take in practice and qualifying. after going for so many years, it just seems better on tv now. it should be a great event this year with ALMS there as well. i want to take in as many races as possible this year because i don't think the series is going to be around much longer, so i'll be in vegas the week before. it'll be pretty busy week

i don't think we were going that fast when that pic was taken. i got the impression they were on a recovery ride or something.

summoner12 03-24-07 07:25 PM

Im gonna be at the LVGP... prolly be all raced out for the LBGP

No cookie for you...

And the TV.... LOL I took that one while at work (used to drive a van around). As the first picture portrays, you can't tell what the heck it is "a TV box going down the fwy?!" Then that semi moved over and I got along side the TV box to find a Geo Tracker..... I sure hope that guy doesn't work for Best Buy....

No My niece and I talked alot about DisneyWorld since she is from the East Coast but never been there. I have a friend who just moved to Florida, right outside Orlando so I can see getting out there maybe next year. I hear my pass is good for both places. Can't wait!!!!

And Summoner I can tell where the picture was taken - Little Corona I would bet at sunset or just as the sun started to slip below the horizon.

ok here's something scary - what happens when you lolly gag on a internet website... I put my brand new $40 teapot on as I went to sit down to the internet. I never heard the whistle (which sounds like a train) so I assumed I forget to turn on the heat. Finally got up to go turn it on and here's what I found. I guess all the water boiled out and the pot started to burn - got so hot it melted the handles... guess I know what I am doing today (other than riding)!

Yes that is the lid handle melted down...:( The put used to be a shiny silver and is now all brown and tarnished. Darn!
