Yeah, drink water. Lots of it. It's not gonna hurt you. If I get tired of water, I'll drink water with some kind of drink powder in it (lemonade or the propel/gatorade mixes)... but over all, don't totally change your routine. As far as I know... Simply adding water has the worst effect of more trips to the bathroom.

A friend turned me on to Hammer Heed last Fall. On the CP rides, I forgot to take extra powder for a ride and had to used their powerade/gatoride and it was soo sweet it almost made me sick. You need to drink what ever you have trained with. I also carry the Hammer powder in my jersey for the rest stops to add to new water. Water by itself does not provide what your body is using and needs to replenish. We are going to have a much warmer MS150 than we had training rides, so hydrate while riding. You need to drink 20-24 ozs. of fluid every hour - and soft drinks do not count.
Everyone is winding down their MS150 training, so stay safe, only a little over a week left.

In getting ready for the MS I was at Terry Hershey near the beltway on Tuesday with my brother and a bolt holding his handlebar on failed and he crashed pretty hard onto the side of the path. Got to an emergency care clinic and ended up with 9 stitches near his right elbow and wearing a splint on his left thumb for a hairline fracture!
Be careful out there and you never know when or where something might happen, always wear your helmets!
He keeps saying he plans to be able to ride but it will be tough, we will know in time if he is still able to do it.

On the Wednesday night group ride there are three different sub groups. The Racer/shop fast guys, the A and the B groups. Since the threat of rain was present only enough to have the race and one combined group. The racers were behind because of a flat earlier on. They came around the slower group and started to sprint down South MacGregor. They got too close and big crash occurred. Three riders went down and one stayed down. This all happened at around 32 mph. The one rider was transported to the hospital because he took a bad spill. it only takes a split second for things to go all wrong. Please stay safe till after the MS150.
Raccoon - I hope your brother is doing well. Any spill can be serious. I hope your brother recovers in time to ride.

That said, if the rain holds off, with highs in the upper 70's, lows around 60, SE tailwind at 10MPH = awesome MS150 weather. I'd take a rain shower under those conditions vs. the cool weather and brutal headwinds we had the past couple of years.

Well, I may be an idiot, but I'm going to give the 100 mile route of the Space Race a go tomorrow. My previous long is 75 miles, which was 2 weeks ago and took me under 5 hours. I wasn't completely blown, and feel I could have done another gone longer. It was funny because my new bike computer conked out that week before the ride, so I was riding only by heartrate and really didn't pay much attention to that even. I just rode my pace and stopped at every other rest stop or so. (My Polar battery finally gave out this week, so I'm going completely by feel tomorrow.
)
I figure I'll take it pretty easy this week though, just some short rides to keep everything loose.
By the way, what is the distance for the 2 days? My team packet said day 1 is 80ish miles and day 2 is 65 if I do the Express route, which I probably will since my fitness is way behind.

Yes the CP ride was running behind. The rain scared alot of people away and delayed people getting the park area. We left Houston on the normal time, but spent 30 minutes trying to get down the last street and parked. It was slightly raining and the roads were wet on the start. It was a good ride, but lots of wind from rest stop two on.

Curious, is the finish for the MS150 in the same place every year? If so, what is the approximate place?
I am not sure if I can stay in Austin overnight, but I did want to inform some family and friends who are locals to the Austin area where the finish will be at (if they wanted to drop by and meet up with me).

The MS150 finish is close to the capital. Here is a link to all the maps for the 2010 MS150. https://www.nationalmssociety.org/cha...aps/index.aspx
Good Luck.

The only reason I know is that my team captain has been sending links for weeks. There is a lot of info on the MS website, much more than I can remember.

I think they keep adding stuff the closer it got because when I signed up for it last month there wasn't much there.
