Creating Custom Map
So in previous threads I learned to import GPX ACA maps into google maps and and layer them with nearby cities and National Parks. Now I would like to create a custom map showing the route I plan on taking and with some points of interest for my blog. I tried to shorten the ACA routes so that they would not show the portions that I was not riding. However, this would require me to delete thousands of individual GPS points. Next I tried typing in two destinations in google maps and then dragging the route to mirror the ACA one. However, I can only do this for short distances and I ran out of layers quickly. Also, it won't let me follow the off road portion of the GDMTBR. How do I create one?

There's no perfect tool that I'm familiar with so I use various editors and also hand-edit the gpx text files themselves. Take a look at this GPX editor that's free.

There's probably an easier way, but I just mapped the whole route on RWGPS. You can export the big .gpx file from RWGPS and then put that on a Google map. Then you can put stuff on top of that track. It's nothing fancy, but here's how mine ended up.
Mapping the whole thing out took some time, but it's something I wanted to do anyway to have a daily .gpx file on my Garmin. Once I had each day mapped out, it was fairly easy to merge the daily .gpx files into one large file.

You could import your GPX file into Garmin BaseCamp (free software). Then double click the name and it will open a window with all the points listed. Click on the first point you would like to delete. It will then have an orange dot around it on the map. Then hold the shift key and click the last point you would like to delete. The section selected will now be orange on the map. Hit the delete key and it will delete them all at ounce. You can then export it back to A GPX file.

Make yourself a free account on mapmyride and then use their route mapping feature. It lets you pick your own route, road by road. You can also choose not to follow roads, so you can attempt to get in your offroad segments.
Good luck.
