I am still sticking with my 1998 Saturn, they last forever. My 15 year old seems to think I am going to "give" her that car next year. I explained that there is a difference between "giving" and "borrowing" a car, but she does not seem to get it.

I am broken hearted today to relay the very sad news that our own coasting, Charlie from England and late of Taipei, passed away suddenly in the past few days.
I met Charlie in London on a layover flying back to NY from Greece in 2006. He was the sweetest man on the planet. He thanked me for saving his life (I had urged him to go to a cardiologist, he did, and it turned out to be a good thing he did). Must have been heart troubles. He would have been in the range of 45 years old by now. I'm very sad.
RIP Charlie/coasting. We loved you and your sense of humor. You never failed to brighten our days. You will be sorely missed.

Nice car, PCAD. I hope you enjoy it.
My dad just picked up a 1983 fire-engine red Mercedes convertible (560 SEL maybe? I don't really care much about cars). He loves it and said the only thing he doesn't like is that it's auto instead of manual.
I don't know what it is with old guys and sports cars.
Must be something about getting old and wanting to recapture lost youth.

Holy $#!t, so sad to hear about Charlie, makes one realize one's own mortality.

You know way more than I do about these cars. He said it's pretty fast and has a 5.7L engine and it's a pretty small car. Apparently it has low mileage and he said it does drive very nicely. He is 81 years old now so anything too fast could just be dangerous in his case.

Oh man, I am devastated by the news. Coasting was always one of the true bright spots of this addiction thread, and whenever he wasn't around I sorely missed him. His refreshing and bold sense of humor was a treasure. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, I could tell he was a good human being. I'm going to hugely miss him.
RIP Coasting!
RIP Coasting!

I just told me roommate about this, it really is like losing a friend in real life. I've had somewhat regular exchanges with the guy over the past six years, it's tough.

Difficult to believe, as he is/was only in his early 40s. I see the Facebook post Pcad references, made by an apparent friend. One assumes it's correct, though I had no other inkling that anything was seriously wrong with coasting. Sad news.
