Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The flip it comment is usually facetious. However, just looking at your photo, there's a reasonable case to be made that you should try flipping the stem downward, lowering the bars, then move the brake hoods up on the bars a bit.

Net effect is that your position on the hoods would have the same amount of "drop" and give an angle to the levers that most people prefer.

And you get a lower position in the drops when you want to get aero, and an overall better look.

But whatever works for you.

Even a lot of the pros have their sram levers pretty high up. That looks pretty extreme to me.

Mav I hate to nit pick but you made us wait 5 months for your build and then we get blurry pics. I'm sure I'd be shaking with excitement if that was my build too but get a tripod if you need to. We need some clear photos to appreciate the beauty.

That looks like a 0-degree stem; so not flippable.

Other than the funky shifter positioning, I think that is a solid looking bike.

I have posted this bike before, but have since changed the wheels to Vuelta Corsa Pro's, shifters to Ultegra 6700's and the stem to a Bontrager carbon xXx lite.

I will work on getting a better shot tomorrow. As for the levers, ill fiddle with em, but they feel good as is to be honest. I spend a lot of time in the drops and like being able to work the shifters easily.

2011 Giant TCR Composite
Added Ritchey Comp Saddle, Williams System 30, cutter bar tape, Schwalbe Ultremo R.1, swapped out brakes for Shimano 105's.
Will probably move the stem down another 5mm and then cut the steerer but we'll see.
Yes, I left the speed/cadence sensor, wheel magnet, and rear light on the seatpost, deal with it.
For those that care: Canon 7D & Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro Lens @ f/5.6, 1/320, ISO100.

ok, then move a spacer, lower the bars and reposition the hoods.

It just looks like the positioning is awkward. Maybe the OP hasn't dialed it in yet, Maybe the way it is works for him.

If not, tinkering with it might be beneficial.

+1. If you're shooting a bike with autofocus against a wall, often the camera focuses on the wall given how narrow the frame is compared to the wall.

Either focus manually, or put a focus sensor right on the frame, focus lock, and recompose.

(and I'll admit the pic of my Merlin is not as sharp as it could be, but I was racing the light, and didn't take the time to do more than a record shot.)

You're srsly posting here to find out what others think of the bike?

* 2 Different tires
* Looks like a rattlecan paintjob and the fact that I can see it doesn't do it good
* Tie wraps to guide the cables
* Dork disc
* Saddle is too far forward
* Badly wrapped bars
* The pedals are no good
* Kick stand... srsly...

So basically: Not! But if you love it, ride it I know I do.

Yes, they are stock cranks. Looking to switch those out sometime in the future and move to a different set, maybe Red also.

But to really complete the look, I should put a Force steel cage on the FD, then put a SRAM Red sticker over it like the pros.
