Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As much as I like the idea, I have to say that it's a poor execution.

I don't think there is any other type of integrated stem at the moment, it's not a bad design but just heavy

I thought that was them I just installed the white version... So are they as good as everyone says they are? Seems like my sram red was easier to dial in.

Yes they do have great performance, shifting is definitely better, but because they are compression less the brake outers are difficult to bend and at 5mm they don't fit the std ferrules.
Not light as some of the link style outers.

I'm curious to hear what they're replacing and how they compare. I know the planet x brakes are pretty light, but are the grams really worth it.

I'm curious because I have a new pair of 6800 brakes(unused), but I wouldn't mind selling them.

These look nice, but do they work well?

They're not replacing anything. New project. My other bike has Tektro R538s.

A whole new array of stuff for my commuter:

Shimano 3N72 Dynamo hub
Mavic XM317 rims for both front and rear
Wheelsmith DB spokes
XT M770 V-Brakes
XT M786 Rear Derailleur - 10 speed Dyna Sys
Deore M591 Shifters
Deore M610 Brake levers
Deore 11-34 Cassette
KMC 10 sp Chain
Planet Bike clip-on fenders
Busch & Muller CYO Premium dynamo light.

It rides like a brand new bike now. It was a 1990 Trek 7000 that I upgraded and it was mostly all original LX 7sp gear. Some of it is still on the bike. I did all the work myself, including building the wheels. The rear was built on the original LX hub.

I've never owned them but the reviews are all 5 star and they look similar to what Pauls Engineering use to make and also like Ciamillo makes. They look just as stout, if not more so, as any of the standard fair.

I still like mine a lot. I feel they are as good as the 6700 calipers I had. The 6700 maybe felt a bit Firmer, but they braking power is about the same IMO. At first, the Planet X calipers felt squishy but then I adjusted them and they feel great. I found that having them closer to the wheel helps them to not feel squishy.

I went to order a set of the black one today for my buddy, but they are out of stock of the black sets in the US for now.

Do they work as well as 6800's
No they don't. I replaced a set of those with 6800's and braking improved with less effort. The Planet X are good brakes but I get more stopping confidence with the 6800's just not as sexy looking.
I would own them again though if I wanted to go for the looks and still have reasonable braking .

Hmm, I'm tempted. I think the blue ones would look good on my bike.

The above is a common misconception in regard to brakes. You cannot tell a caliper's braking power based on feel. The aftermarket stuff certainly looks cool, but when it comes to function, it's really tough to beat Shimano calipers.
