45 minutes or so around T-Town. Parked at Rodale to watch the training crit a bit. On my way back there was an ambulance parked on the back side, not good. Just a wrist luckily.

That's two rides in 3 days, after many months of nothing. My sit bones felt it today.

Did a bunch of random intervals yesterday.

20" on 10" off for about 7 minutes, 20 minutes at ~90%, some sprints.

Training!

Easy spin. A gopher ran right into my rear wheel and knocked itself out. Thankfully I was on my race wheels or else it might have gone into the spokes.

2:30 ride time for 40 mi. Dropped from the group ride at mile 20. I think my nutrition was off after last night's workout, plus city riding sucks with all the traffic lights. stop go stop go stop go stop go just killed me.

A handful of 45 second "hill repeat" intervals last night (those sucked), then nearly 4 hours today, part with a group. The group ride was painful. One of the local strong guys showed up on his TT bike. Pain was had by all.

Why so long today?

Because bikes.

Well ... given enough riding time, I sadly suppose it was bound to happen. At the end of the local hillier hammer ride, rider got taken out by a truck pulling a trailer. Ride was great otherwise and the incident happened just after the finishing "sprint". 9 times out of 10 I'll be in the sprint, but elected to sit out of it today. Had a truck come past me pretty close while I was near the edge of the bike lane and before I could think, his trailer was inches from my head. Guy proceeded to do the same to the rider in front of me (quite a few bike lengths up as we were spread out at this point). Then just a few seconds later, he clipped a rider with the trailer. Bike got pulled under and rider went flying. Handful of guys stayed with rider while a few of us chased after the truck that wasn't inclined on stopping until we caught up with him at a light. We were able to get him to stop by staying in front of his vehicle and called 911. Rider seems to be ok-ish.

Pretty sobering experience ... dude gave no ****s about what he did.

I've passed riders pulling my trailer (8.5x20'). It was literally the scariest thing I've done pulling the trailer. One thing to have the trailer bouncing uncontrollably on the freeway due to massively chopped up pavement. We're all in steel boxes. It's another to be going up a hill and having some reasonably beginner/inexperienced looking riders struggling up the hill. They weren't very smooth, the hill is pretty steep, and my whole tow-vehicle-and-trailer don't accelerate well. I passed maybe two riders, stayed behind another 6 or so. It was a local charity ride route, normally there wouldn't be so many people spread out over the hill.

I'm glad you guys caught the driver and the cyclist is reasonably okay.

13:30, 265miles and 700tss for the week. Raced yesterday, even.

not coincidentally I am feeling much better about life with a return to even a little normalcy. now I just need to weigh closer to 170 than 190 and I'll be back in business.

I feel you dawg. Riding is my prozac for real.

I took one of my two white whale KOMs today, then promptly shuffled back home because it's 100 out and I'm technically supposed to be finishing off a rest week.

Another 40 minutes or so today. It's 93 or something here and too hot for an out of shape guy. I rode the towpath nearby for the first bit, won't do that again probably. It was washboarded in places and my bike is now covered in a red mist that I get to go wash off. Front brake is squealing, must be toed wrong I guess. I'll have to adjust it.

That's 3 rides for 3.5 hours and 220 TSS for the week. Not terrible for a guy who hasn't been on a bike in 6 months and can count his rides over the last 2 years on his fingers probably. Looking at my WKO, my last time actually training was 2013. 2014 and 2015 I rode about 10 times total, and then once in January this year.

Went for flatter route today for my long ride and still got 8000 feet of climbing over 7 hours and 120 miles. Found a fire road in Marin that led to a nice beach, but lots of walkers. Tried another trail but about a mile in there was a really steep rocky descent I didn't think I could do on a road bike.

Drank 15 lbs of fluid and must have sweat all of it. 350 TSS

We are in Vegas visiting relatives. Insanely hot. My garmin showed 100F when I got back to the house at 9am.
